Cauncy what's going on with the wind this season mate? Your the expert.

Can you speak to the wind gods for me. I'm getting far to many jobs done around the house for this time of year.

February has been very awful and forecast looks worse! Troughed out. In fairness we have had a few good days, last Sunday was epic.
But in the MidWest has been well below average.

Only positive is some of the farmers are comparing it to 1975 when they had epic winter rains.

Yeh that would be a bonus for sure.

Strange how perception works. It seems January 2020 has actually been the best in Perth history for number of days at BFt5+ (over 17 knots). 2017-2020 being exceptionally good. February is still going, but already much better than pre-2017.

Better enjoy the wind while it lasts, kiting in 2012 would have been terrible, weren't even proper foils around back then.

In 13 year's in dongara in the Midwest WA
It's without doubt been the worst season by a fair wack, I've felt like I've never been fully kite fit, the water temps have had a lot to do with it ,unusually warm, we had days in Oct Nov dec Jan feb with days in the 40s, these are generally in feb/ march
WA as a whole has been pretty ordinary, the kite schools can lay testament to that,
Saying that I did get a few sessions in down south denmark region, with one very epic session
This is a handy tool for monitoring ocean temps which play a big part in our winds

To be clear my post above was for Perth metro. Midwest looks to have had a completely different season. Least windy since 2011 it seems.

Troughed out, I don't remember last proper sea breeze without clouds. Worst Feb for many years. Can't complain as past few seasons have been sensational, hopefully March has some wind

These stats don't state wind direction. We have had plenty of wind....just bloody strong easterlies.

I don't know what you all are talking about. The foiling has been awesome! There's probably only about 10 or so days a year when I can't foil. Lit in just 6 knots

These are great stats, thanks for sharing. I was looking at BOM and Windfinder for those but they cost a fair bit to obtain. The only downside of those stats is that it looks like they don't take into account the direction of the wind at all.

It's good timing as I was just compiling my own stats that I kept over the last 10 seasons in Perth's Northern Suburbs. These numbers show the average amount of ''teachable days'' per month over the last 10 years. ''Teachable days'' would mean that those numbers also includes the 12-18 knots days where most kiters wouldn't bother but they do exclude any of the Easterly winds.


Definitely the worst February by far. Hoping for a decent March and April to finish off this season.

Global warming??! it's true??!

I can even wear a rash vest&(cauncy's favourite colour) panty-hose in the v Southwest now and not even be cold & be able to move about heaps more & be super-duper-'flexible' to do some bungy jumps.. ... It's awesome!
I guess that's one good thing about it! ???.???!??

Can't remember a season as bad.
