I've talked to this dude, really nice guy, he has learnt to kite at Phone Box as he lives across the road. Pretty gutsy effort really, I reckon he is one of the few who has taken on the ocean from the start. The lad is trying his best and has taken a big step over the last two weeks as he has gotten onto a smaller twin tip, so can edge much better. If fact he was just about rippin a few days ago. I reckon he doesn't really undersatnd the right of way rules as yet as he still has his hands full handling the kite and board. Maybe if you have a close call, just give him some quite advice on avoiding others etc. From my experience talking to him, he's very keen to help. I personally have taken to avoiding him, rather than wondering IF HE WILL SEE ME.

just reading through some of these posts and there are some good ideas out there (and some not so good -!kiting marshalls!?!)its encouraging that many of you are for self regulation,I think its the way to go and a great way to improve kitings image, having said that it bothers me that even with the accidents(they have been in the news) that have happened lately you still get joe public going to an area where there is clearly a lot of kiters out there riding and they insist on swimming or diving in that area. The mentality that "this is my beach too and i`ll swim here if i want" compromises the safety of everyone,it`s a two way street.Signs in kiting areas warning of the dangers to the public and beach users would probably go a long way to giving people on the outside a bit of info on the potential risks, but you can`t stop the idiot factor ,no matter what you do you cannot make it 100% safe ,but if everyone pulls their head in (joe public & bikie kiters too) and works toward the same goal we can make it better and safer for everyone!
i could rant on all day about this **** but i think everybody has the same ideas blah blah blah!

kite safe!

just a quick heads up.

there is a post on the peli point thread, posted by 'dudewheresmykite' who is a friend that has just become involved in the sport. he runs the state branch of a rather large corporation and is involved in many things to do with publicity etc.

it seems he has some pretty good ideas about what's happening and it could be worth a look for the senior guys in our sport.

one reason for me bringing this into this thread is that jonathon (sp?) 'jkeys' made a point about dune repairs at phonebox... one point made by dudewheresmykite was that perhaps a local paper could be notified and it could be a good public interest story... perhaps getting the ranger involved for assistance and this could create a good 'co-operation' style headline which would give a bit of warm fuzzy for kiters in cott.

anyway... just a thought.
happy kiting

If someone gets me the details and WAKSA/the individual is OK I'd be happy to bash out a media release.
