So today at the Pond (11/01/26) another kiter who thought he owned it was shouting at me as I was traveling downwind through the channel (towards ocean) but on the starboard side. However, he thought it was a good idea to repeatedly stop in the middle of the channel to set up for some jumps traveling upwind towards the pond from the shallow part of the channel opening. He seemed upset that I traveled past him on the ocean side of the channel as I didn't want to get to close to the shore downwind. I understand the sailing rules and usual etiquette of The Pond, but I would assume because he repeatedly stopped in the shallow channel opening he immediately loses right of way in this situation as he is creating the hazard. Am I wrong or right to think this? Appreciate any feedback.

Etiquette is long gone in the pond, there use to be a loop/rotation system where when followed create more room for everyone but this stop years ago. Unfortunately there are people in the pond that like to short tack within the small area of the pond which makes the area even smaller for everyone. Stopping in the channel is a bit of a dick move in my opinion as it stops the flow for the riders in the pond and people have to wait and rearrange. Though most people do it now as they don't want to go outside the pond.

Unless the pond opens back up this is just going to be how it is now.

It's a free for all now. the other week I , was heading to go out the back and made eye contact with a guy who was just heading towards me in the pond prepping for a jump.
Our eyes locked, I was down wind of him slightly. less than a second later, he jumps, loops and lands about 20-30 metres directly in front of me. I basically had to dive the kite as hard as possible away from
him to avoid a collision.

absolute f wit.

Kids learning to windsurf there don't appreciate being nearly landed on or hit by kites. You look like kooks. Jump when safe to do so which involves simply just looking. The good riders are not the problem.Thanks.

Anyone else see a kite sailing across Safety Bay rd through traffic yesterday, looked like it came from a release on the water.Clown show.

There were at least 2 full release moments yesterday, hopefully not the same guy, I saved a Duotone kite before it made it to shore after 2 guys tangled, the more experienced rider was forced into full eject as the new guy didn't pull his safety to kill the power. I did see the guy up and riding again after a reset on the beach so no damage was done in that incident.

sad

More of a windsurfer myself...
But there's something about the pond people the last few years perhaps with the new ownership and over promotion thats made things terrible
It's nearly always pond 'trained'people that jumps upwind of kite students &windsurfers more north ..
And the mess they've made of things down south is even worse.
Thats my two cents
