Hi all,

We just booked our tickets to Perth coming over for 5 weeks from the 10th of december and hired a hi-top van to cruise around the westcoast.

Loving wakestyle flatwater boarding we are looking for the best spots with flat water proper winds and cheap/free places to camp close to the kitebeach keeping in mind we have a campervan.

Does anyone know any nice spots to camp close to the beach?

Any other advise on where to go and what to do is also very much appreciated.

Best regards,

Dominique & Tessa (The Netherlands)

although i havn't kited there, i've heared that Augusta and Margaret River are popular spots. there are plenty of caravan parks in both areas.

Might be worth investigating

If you have wheels then utilise them, sure have a kite at some of the metro spots but you will spew if you come all this way and don't have a look around. Go have a look around our great state, Augusta is only 3 hours to the south so do a week down there then go Geraldton, shark bay and exmouth. All have flat water spots with camping facilities close by.

Hope you have a great holiday.

P.S look out if you go to Safety Bay some gnarly locals....

FYI...as a Safety Bay local we are not gnarly just trying to keep the peace with other water users..Read the rules, know the rules of sailing, show respect to everyone and get respect back!! We don't want a repeat of the issues at Mullaloo. Come by for a beer after a fun session!! Aloha from a Safety Bay local!

Haha tongue in cheek in my comments, I'm as local as they come. Don't know who you are as your names not on your profile, most the local females are married to local kiter's. If your apart of WA surf then lets not be mistaken, the school that teaches there are not locals, they are blow in instructors, the school is owned by a local windsurfer, go figure.

Anyway I'll reiterate my comments if you show no respect like what happened on Sunday, or behave in a manner that could potentially shut the spot down I'm sure you'll be told in no uncertain terms. In extreme cases lines have been cut and on other occasions kiters have been made to cough up for repairs for damage caused to others equipment through ones stupidity.

Aloha from a Safety Bay local, look forward to that beer

Thanks for all the comments.
Coming from Holland with one of the largest kiteboarding populations around and heaps of restricted beaches we know all about protecting our beaches and showing respect to the nature and people around us.

Regarding places to stay:
Nothing beats waking up with a session. If anyone has got particular spots with a possibility of camping straight on the beach (omg feeling like a german) we would love to know.

Thanks a lot and see ya'll on the water.

Dow,
Camping on the beach in most areas is prohibited as is camping in carparks. It's also very windy here in summer so by the end of a session all you want to do is get off the beach and out of the wind. Camper vans and soft sand are not a good combination so i dont know how you'll go getting on & off the beach even if there's access. Best bet is to find a local caravan park/camping ground which will probably set you back $10-$20 a night.

Enjoy our state say g'day to the locals & ask about the spot before you go out.

Cape Range National Park has bays right next to the beach for 2wd's.
Top pick for me is camp at Osprey bay and kite down to Sandy bay and back.

Thanks for the valuable comments.

@Turtlehunter: I realise the 2wd will not be able to beat the sand though there might be beaches with campinggrounds right next to them. The windy part is what i'm there for:) We had the worst summer ever this year so need to get back on my board soon.

@Weta: Thanks. Going to check that out for sure:)
