Hello All,

I'm faily new to kiting, just getting my first runs up, and just starting to edge up wind, had my lessons at Pinnaroo in the chop
, saw Point Walter on 'near maps' with kites in action, is it best on easterly's there! as I have not been yet but fancy a go!
If someone could reccomend best wind range, and inform me of any hazards would be great???
Or any negatives if any?? ah also what's the parking like, is there alternative parking when the nearest one is full, and is there a parking fee??

Point Walter is fun on an East, and is also good on a NE.
When there is some North, just be careful not to go too far off the spit as the wind tends to feather out.

If your new to kiting, I would suggest you stay on the Northern side of the spit, when you make a mistake (let's face it, you're going to wrap your kite up at some stage, it's going to happen) you don't want to end up floating to Mosman Park. It's a long swim and an even longer walk.

As for hazards, there are a lot of rocks in the shallows, I'd say most people have cut them self's- or scratched up a new board there at some stage in there kiting life. The Northern side of the spit is rockier than the Southern side.

When venturing to the middle of the river, I'd advise you to give way to all vessels, regardless if you have “right of way” just turn back around and avoid a potential drama.

Currents at Point Walter can be quite strong at times, during large tidal ranges (rare) stay north, you won't have a problem.

The offshore side of Pt. Walter is great fun; the wind can drop out so only kite that side if your ability allows it.

Parking can get full at times, I see people park on the gravel up from the car park without too much trouble.
Have fun.

When you get a bit more confident, have a go at jumping the spit.

.... also try just a bit further east of the sand spit. We call it the dog beach. Approx 300m east of sand spit . It's on the corner of Burke drive and Page st. Will normally be 6 -12 guys out if there is some wind around. Easy parking on the grass area and no underwater hazards... good on easterly , north easterly , north westerly . When it's northerly it's pretty much straight on shore. It's better for beginners and intermediates . Cheers Jim.

One thing everyone fails to mention to some one new, be aware of Your surroundings!, People walking dogs, people walking the sand bar, kids swimming, also be aware when landing and launching, the ranger was down there a few weeks ago taking notes, would be sad to lose this picture perfect spot because of a few it's all about me people.

She was happy to help, it was only fair that your mum got a chance to have a break.

And back on topic, Point Walter is awesome but please don't make a knob of yourself down there. There are loads of other beach users down there (dog walker, fisherman, kids, etc.) and the spit is super crowded on a busy day. If you are still learning and aren't comfortable launching/landing in close quarters and under control, best to head to Attadale foreshore instead.

The crew are good so just ask about anything if you aren't sure. And watch out for the rocks.

Since we're being honest, I don't really have a sister, so it couldn't have been her either.
