Hey people,

I just got a training kite and was wondering what places i should go to get used to flying the thing?

I have tried a few local spots but the winds don't seem to be consistent enough to hold the kite in the air.

Is the beach the only place you can fly a parafoil kite? I live in maylands so I wonder if near the river is ok sometimes?

and are there good or bad times of day to fly kites? I tried flying one at city beach at night but i couldn't keep it in the air due to lack of winds..

I've looked at the seabreeze forcasts but don't really know how to interpret them... how do I use them to know when and where to fly a kite?

Cheers

After flying a trainer recently I found that parks are OK as long as you have a good 200m between you and large trees (downwind from the trees) to get consistant wind.

You can't beat the beaches in a seabreeze though, just becareful of other beach users.

Look for green arrows on the seabreeze front page. My trainer would fly in 12-15knots but was much better fun in 20+.

Don't really know any places near you although the area around Ascott (?) race course should have reasonably consistant breeze in a strong seabreeze, eg now of tomorrow arvo.

The best place of all that I found though was the south facing beach at Woodman Point.

Hope that helps.
