I'm moving from Netherlands to Perth in September (for a year). Got some questions, hope someone can help me out!

I've been kiting for two years, all over the place (south africa, brazil, indonesia, sri lanka, carribean), and learned that its good to be a bit prepared before running into the water overhyped :).

I hoped to get a bit info about the kitespots and what to look out for. Whats the best way to go at it? Walk to a random beach and ask local kiters? I've got questions like: What beach with what direction? Are the predictions on windfinder good? What to look out for?

Im looking and was wondering if there are any facebook groups / whatsapp-groups or something similar were people discuss what the good spots are for the day? Are there any bars or kiteclubs where most kiters hangout?

One more thing. I'm going to buy new kites and after reading this forum I understood that for a 82 kg kiter quiver 8m+11m (Fone bandit 9) would make sense?! Since windrange is 16-30 knots most of the good days september - april?

Best wind is from the south west. Most places have decent locals who are keen to help, as long as you're polite.

One more question. What is the best wind forcast website, and is it any good? In europe we use windguru and windfinder, is that any accurate?

Proper seabreeze in Perth may kick in earlier but normally not before mid October, sometimes November. So go further north perhaps for September/October if you can where the wind arrives earlier. And night life even in Perth is crap compared to Europe. So better bring a gf or get to know one early on. And/or kite until you can't move, have a bbq and a beer and do it all again the next day.

you can kite nearly every beach in Perth on a southerly/ sou'wester, except patrolled swimming beaches, most don't have submerged rocks.

on an easterly, there's a couple of spots on the Swan river and nothing else.

Just post on this forum which suburb your in when you arrive, and someone will let you know which beach is good and local to you

we all use the weather page on this site, it's not very accurate, but you'll usually get 3 or 4 afternoons of good wind every week of summer

sometimes there's kiter functions at bars, you'll find them on this site when they happen

I moved here a year and a half ago from East Coast, originally NZ. In NZ wind guru is king, very accurate, I think it works on weather systems only (i.e. high-low pressure interactions) which is what all the wind comes from in locations like NZ and other temperate, non-continental areas.
In WA wind guru doesn't have the sea breeze accurately built in to the forecast so it is widely ignored, as all season the wind is generated by thermal heating. I use the wind forecast on this website, seems to be really good.

Depends, on the wind but last season flew a 10 majority of the time but my quiver is 7,9,10,12 and covers all the wind range..... Think of Cape Town South Africa and go 2 sizes up, with a bigger board close to a 140

I am also moving to perth from the netherlands in oktober and I have the same questions! I am especially confused about which Kites to bring. Some say it's kind of light but than I hear it can be pretty strong also..any advise for me? I weigh 50 kilo's and have a 5, 7, 9, 11. I want to bring 2 Kites. Doubting about 7 and 9 or 7 and 11. Who can help me out? Is 30 kts pretty much the strongest over there?

In Perth maybe a bit over 30. If you head further north can get seabreezes' close to 40kts

At 50kg I would suggest that you would very seldom need your 11. Bring the other 3

Average wind will be 16 low to 25/8 on the good days in Perth for the summer. Go north to lano ( 2hrs)or Geraldton ( 4hrs ) & you can probably double it.
Welcome to WA, Windy as or Wait a while. Probably both.

Looks like it could be an EL NINO YEAR so we need the experts to jump in could be more lows.
