The LOC needs to lift their game. For example does anybody know who won the last 2 years race?!! ( was there even a winner?)
I can name the winners of the past 5 years L2L.
Replace LOC kite committee with Tim Turner & crew pls

2013 - Ian Young (one of two competitors to find the tiny white markers in big swell)
2014 - Dale Stanton

From memory it was Ian Young 2013, Dale Stanton 2014.

I believe it will keep getting better if it is supported and I can see a day when either kites and poleys will be in the same race or the kite race will be the biggest race but it's no going to happen overnight.

As anyone who did the race 2 years ago would know the biggest concern is finding the markers.
As long as they leave the course as it is now and don't change it on the day like they did in 2013 it should be ok and having less marks gives us more of a chance of having a boat on the mark.

I just hope there is some decent nuking wind this year.

Forecast doesn't look good for Sunday. If the organizers don't let us race Saturday is anyone interested in an informal race from The Point around Lancelin Island and back ... anyway you want and at your own risk, etc on Friday or Saturday?

That is a great idea.

In my case, how is an 11m going to make it back upwind? I might just stay at the pub!

Hi everyone,

The team at the Lancelin Ocean Classic are carefully monitoring the weather forecast conditions for the event. All scheduled events are currently proceeding as planned. Daily event updates will be released via the website and social media so please sign up on the website for all updates as they are available.

We will also be undertaking competitors surveys to get feedback for the 2016 event from those competing this year - would be great to get suggestions and feedback so things can be taken into account by the stakeholders!

We are here now and it's cranking!

I was trying to stay positive about this event but as I sit here surrounded by people celebrating and fireworks going off I can't help feeling that even if there is wind tomorrow it will be a bit of an anti climax.
I think it will be my last year unless we are able to either race with the poleys next year or at least on the same day same course before or after.

I'm trying to find some info on the website and even that is just all about the windsurf event.

Oh well with a bit of luck someone else will be happy to take our money and give us something in return.

I agree tight lines. To run the kiters on a Sunday afternoon. At the end everyone's just going to pack up and go. I can't see any reason why the kites can't run an hour before or behind the poleys

Having it on the Saturday before/after the windsurfers also benefits by having Sunday as a potential back up.

I also agree that it would be an anti-climax on Sunday evening as it is the end of the event and everything is being packed up.

I'm sure there was a logistical reason why Sunday was chosen, but there seems to be many benefits to running the event on Saturday. Another benefit would be that the marks (volunteer cray boats) would only be needed for 1 day.

It was a good call to can it, there was obviously not enough wind, with kites going in the water struggling to relaunch.

while it is all good to say it should be ran on the saturday before or after the windsurfers . I would like to knmow where everyone suggests we park approx 200 cars and where both kiters and windsurfers rig up ? While that would be the best option logistically on that small stretch of beach and small carpark you cannot do it .

It was better in 2013 when they ran it on the friday . Sunday is a ghost town in lanno

I can't help but wonder what would have happened if there was no wind on Saturday but wind on Sunday.
Would the poley's have just missed out or would they have run on Sunday?

If the kiters were to leave after the windsurfers the room required to rig up would be the same. Especially if there is an hour or two difference.

Parking could easily be sorted with shuttle buses (which are already offered), however that is certainly a problem.

The only problem I see with Friday is that numbers will be smaller due to it being a working day.

In other news, the chopper pilot looked like he was having a good laugh!!

I can't help thinking the windsurfing community are in a no win situation organising a kitesurfing event, even WAKSA cant organise an event without copping flak from kiters ie L2L.

I hope this doesn't turn into a we've been hard done by by the poleys, it is their BIG event with long history and a lot of prestige, you cant expect them to change the format to suit kites.

Fair call Goofy. It is their event. We have our own marquee event in the L2L.

But looking across the poleys on the beach there was barely a guy under 40. If the Ledge to Lancelin is to survive it needs to evolve and treat the kiters as equals (if not the superior form of wind use!).

Yep agreed, fair call Goofy.

It would probably be better if kiters had a stand alone Ledge to Lancelin race but in the mean time we do have the Lighthouse to Leighton so I think I will stick to that for now.
