Yes it's possible, and to my knowledge, yes it's allowed as long as you're not in a popular swimming area and no where near the boat channels & pier.

I'd recommend you avoid kitesurfing there on your own and I'd only recommend it for more advanced kitesurfers. Beaches are quite narrow and lots of rocks / reef. If you get in trouble or injured there may not be anyone to help you.

go to the Eastern side of Salmon Bay on a sea breeze (SSW, SW). A fair bit of reef so you have to be extra careful. Due south wind can be very gusty here, so best on a SSW and SW.

Junction of Thomson bay and Bickley Bay on a land breeze (Easterly, ESE, SE). Usually pretty gusty and lots of reef / rocks as well. Despite multiple attempts on various days I have not yet had a single great session there, due to the wind being too gusty and the currents can be strong as well.

Be safe!

Bought my gear over multiple times and it's always just been to hard to get to the western side of the island. Never get past the pub.

Yes it's possible,

Sound brilliant that's one thing different I haven't thought of doing yet
Exactly my point of 'jees you have alot of experience'
Something to do in the future..
Thankyou

..Actually no sorry I did think of doing it two years ago but someone said r.e going round it....cloud kite Brett I think..that you need a wing as it's lower r.e gusts and need the ability to tack sharper better at an offshore point at some point so maybe a foil.. but will re-look at it..
Thanks

Rotto defiantly worth kiting. I have kited there probably over 30times and never had a bad session. My favorite has to be Salmon bay. Last time is kited over there missioned it and went round the whole island. Best to have a good bike and trailer especially for the way back to jetty when you shattered.

Nice !..I am pretty glad you didn't take a 'gopro' and plaster it everywhere or you might be telling everyone where it was

...I've never heard of 'rotto'..

Salmon Bay is great and worth the cycle. I have a trailer you can borrow; I use it for Kite and SUP.
