Ordinarily I wouldn't post rumours but have heard that this years KiteStock is the last one? Does anyone (WAKSA?) have any details on this?

I went last year and it seemed like a pretty good event, trying to get a pass from the mrs for this years!

Funny you mention this as I heard the same thing from an older kiter/windsurfer last week.

It may be the last one if it isn't supported . It does cost alot of money to put it on . It is going to be a huge event and we have more hands to organise the event this year . Ticket sales have been going well and if it is supported well then there will be a kitestock next year .

This question gets asked most years. It's a big job to run Kitestock as a volunteer organization but the attendance from previous years speak for themselves. There have been hundreds of kiters attend Kitestock over the years, from WA, Australia and around the world. On several occasions the attendance has ensured it's been the biggest stand alone kiting event in Australia!! We thank those people who have attended the event in the past and encourage everyone to come up again for the 10 year anniversary!

The decision on Kitestock in the future will be up to the next committee but don't assume that the next committee will continue on with the event. Maybe it does need a break, but that's up to them and the kiting community to decide and if it's not a massive turnout this year then maybe that is the kiting community saying it needs a break. However the current committee will provide plenty of information for anybody considering getting involved as it needs to continue to evolve with what kiters want and that does require new people and fresh ideas.

So while we cannot answer whether Kitestock will make another 10 years we will certainly be celebrating the 10 year anniversary this year!! The sponsors are on board in a huge way and we've started announcing all of this on the General forum page (see below). We will be providing further information regarding the event program in the coming days but we can say that there will be something for all kite surfing abilities (and non-kiters so please bring the Mrs up!! She can SUP all morning, attend the trainer kite day on the Saturday and check out the local farmers markets).

Kitestock is about joining together as a kiting community, sharing kiting knowledge and having a great time. The party will be massive to celebrate 10 years of this event and there will be plenty of prizes for all participants (boards, kites, harnesses, pumps, etc!!).

Can you advise how much your gold, silver and bronze sponsorship to attend the event is please? Curious to see how much sponsors pay.

I attended last year for the first time and found it to be fantastic.

As you say, it's about bringing the kiting community together, having fun on the water, trying out different demo gear, and a lot of the food is provided and events run.

I wish there were 2 kitestocks, not 1 or 0.

Why doesn't every kiter tell all their mates to come along and make this the biggest kitestock ever, so there is no question as whether to continue it or not.

Get involved people, it's what we do, and its worth every cent. Some whinge about getting WAKSA membership, but hey it includes insurances so cover all bases, join WAKSA and make it to kitestock. It's only once a year, it's well organised, and kiting is what we do. Hope to see you there this year and every year that follows!

Just wondering if WAKSA can advise the cost of being a sponsor for this event???? As per the above request that has been ignored.

here's an idea - if you're actually interested in participating in Kitestock as a sponsor, maybe you should let WAKSA know what it is you have to offer the event, kiters and the kiting community - in a measured, thought out proposal. You can email WAKSA here: waksa@waksa.org.au

Any queries regarding sponsorship of Kitestock can be directed to the WAKSA email address as Juddy mentioned. We are more than happy to discuss this in a private manner. The different levels represent overall value delivered by a sponsor which can include cash, prizes, support and sponsor resources as agree with the sponsor.

WAKSA will always attempt to reply to official queries sent to the WAKSA email address within a few days. Often posts on Seabreeze are missed as we're often not always logged onto Seabreeze.

We cannot preempt what the next committee will decide to do with Kitestock in the future, however the current committee is strongly leaning towards the thought that this event needs a break. This is why we responded to this initial post and request all kiters jump on board to celebrate this great event for it's 10th anniversary. The kite shops and schools are heavily involved this year and have been very generous in their sponsorship, particularly with clinics (for all kiting abilities) as well as some great prizes.

Keep an eye on the announcement thread and/or the Kitestock FB page for further updates!

Juddy, if you think my posts 'get a bit old' then keep in mind that your relentless chirping on WAKSA does also. Totally understand you (and also Puppet) are the EX presidents but you may want to let it go and move on from sprouting on about it.
As this is a public forum and WAKSA is a kiting organisation who have a presence on a PUBLIC forum I believe it's a fair question to ask how much Kitestock sponsorship really is? IS it really such a big secret?

We agree on one thing here: I'm an ex president. You make that claim like I hide from it. I can however assure you that I as much as I've moved on to greener pastures, that doesn't mean I'm not going to support WAKSA in what it does, especially re: Kitestock.

If nothing else, I've managed to point you in the right direction & you've made contact directly. My job is done.

Of course, given you've been around the scene for so long, perhaps you would have been able to work that out for yourself rather than your own, relentless, online chirping....

Just imagine if all the retailers put their heads together and ran an event very similar to Kitestock at Leighton Beach over a weekend, with no ticket fees, no sponsorship fees, open to all. Retailers can set up their stalls/tents and contribute as much or as little as they want. Food vans welcome, even windsurfers can attend!

You would get every kiter in Perth and prob some interstates attend and it would be the biggest kiting event in Australia. The numbers would be massive and put Kitestock to sleep.

If you want numbers and a carnival type event this is the way to do it..

Could it be this simple by keeping it local and free to all??
