Hi guys,

A couple of us are thinking of flying over to the westcoast just after new years to kite for a week.
We are probably just flying into Perth, renting a car and then making our way up to geraldton,

I would much appreciate some advice on kite spots either a long the way or up around the geraldton area, Flatwater is ideal, but some nice kicker waves for big air is awesome to, we wont bring any foil or surfboards, purely TT.

We have still not decided if we should just rent a cabin in geraldton and use that as our home base or do a couple of stops on the way up.

Thoughts from you guys who live and kite over there?

Dongara is the perfect bump jump spot' butter flat with little ramps to launch off when it's cranking' got a ripper flat water spot at lagoon' great dwinders from 20 to 100 klms inc tacks with waves n flat water' nice wave on the reef' epic when decent swell period' earlier the better as wind can fark it above 30 knts
Sunsets to coros is epic too' coros has chop inside the reef but venture out to waves and you have great flat water between set's and big ramps to launch ' nice rolling set's too' late afternoon it swings cross off slightly and gets pretty clean horrocks is similar but smaller scale' and few nice dwinder also but don't kite near jetty due to swimmers plz' call in starfish cafe and ill give you the lowdown' if a 4x4 is cheap enough I'd grab one
Heaps of spots on the way too lancelin ' stay at the lodge ask for Matt and he will fill you in locally

In my experience, the further north you travel the more selective you need to be about who you talk to. I only ride TT, and I only ride across the road from my house in the burbs. At that time of year accommodation can be tricky but maybe consider waiting until the week before, check the forecast and go where the wind suits your style.

if u only have a week i really wouldn't bother going any further north than gero coros (or maybe dongara as said) & as said ....forecast!

Seems like one of the lads have decided to drive hes van across which is kind of good since we can just dump all the gear there before flying over and meeting him then train the van back when we leave. It also means we will probably just bang on a roof tent for me and he will crash in the van for the week so accommodation wont be an issue for us at all,
Wake up on the beach and kite straight away!

We will be hitting Geraldton as we are meeting a friend there so some driving will be done.
How good is shark bay compared some of the other flat water spots?

Shark Bay is beautiful, no waves but plenty of flat water . Its another 4 hours from Gero realistically.

I would just keep an eye on the seabreeze forecast. It can vary quite a bit across the major climatic zones on the West Coast.
January is pretty reliable for wind in the MidWest, but we can get troughed out with hot easterlies sometimes, so further North or South may be an option if that is how it is looking.

Stay flexible would be my suggestion. Enjoy!!
