As im new to kiting I was just wondering what do you guys have in you quiver, do you have to have 3 differnt sizes or what is the minimum and what is your go to, best all rounder?

Mainly just free ride with a bit of surf. Cash isnt really the issue its more just trying to get a feel for what would cover most days at a minimum.

3 kites will do perth and surrounds, most do a 2m diff so

7/9/11 or 8/10/12(me) light wind kiting doesnt interest me that much so a 12 is way big enough, but often would love to have a 6m. I 80kgs dripping wet and twin tip mowing the lawn. If i bought again i would go the 7/9/11 combo, gives a touch more option for surfboard and higher rather than lower wind range.

Depend on weight/board for either the above selection.
Search history for this, might be qualified advice, cheers.

Hey thanks for the good info.

I too am about 80kg so your advise is pretty helpful. Yes that seems to be the norm, the 8/10/12,..I was tthinking about running a 6/9/12?? Would this be to big a gap in wind range?

Hey thanks again, apprechiated!

hi gazuki

i rode 6m and 9m from perth to the south west all this season. would like a 12m eventually but money IS an issue haha
i ride a variety of surfboards though, nearly always strapless, and change for whether the kite is going to be on low end or top end when i choose a board.
i reckon 7 / 9 / 12 in WA if you are going to twin tip as well.

you haven't said where you are kiting either - so if in somewhere like gero, you might be able to go 6 / 8 / 12 and gap to the bigger kite as you will rarely use it as austin has said.

happy hunting!

Cheers guys, apreciated hey!

Now one more question,.. There are three kites that im trying to decide between. Im still pretty new and dont want anything too hardcore as im still a bit of a kook but I want a quiver I can use for most conditions from August to Leeman for freeride and a bit of surfing.
Leaning towards the Onzone Catalyst as I allready have bars/ lines,
Crazy Fly Tango
Liquid Force Envy
Which would you guys go with if you were setting up your quiver?

I would get a 8/10/14 or 7/10/14 which will cover u from 14 to 30+. Its better to go bigger for light wind kites as in wa when its a light wind day it sits round 14-16 knots the whole day when ull be wishing u had a bigger kite then a 12. If it picks up and ur overpowered switch to the 10 and ull be sweet nothing more frustrating then been underpowered

Catalyst is a great kite. You should base your quiver around the one size you will use most.

First ask, if you could only get one kite to suit majority of your local conditions, at your weight, what size kite would that be?

Second, add a smaller kite to fulfil the high wind range, and a big kite for the light wind range.

Looks like I should start looking for a 8 and 12 catalyst. Thats the way I was swaying but thought I would get some more exsperienced advise. This leads to my next question then,.. can I use my same bar and lines from my 2008 10m Catalyst on say a 2012/13 8 and 12?

Dont forget about a board quiver too.My quiver is 4 kites and 4 boards atm. Some say that is excessive , but I can kite 7 knots to 50 knots.I weigh 85 pies .
Kitewise I have a 7 ,10 , 13 and a 17.
Board wise I have a high wind tt , a low wind tt ,a ultra light wind free ride raceboard and a surfboard .

If I had to minimise it I would go with my 17 m and my 10 m and a 1 high wind tt and 1 light wind tt.
Surfboards I can get for 100 dollars.
The 10 m is a great allround size if you have a 2 board set up.I can kite 15 to 35 knots with my 10 m switching boards around. The 17 m is great for having fun boosting when everyone else is mowing the lawn.

Ozone had one of the crappyiest bar on the market for many years .They didnt do a thing to it since 2011 or may be ealier. The swivel did not swivel and the saftey release on it was a shocker. Its design lets sand into it and it jams..In 2014 they bought out there new swivel chicken loop and release system. Its about 4 years behind some other kite brands, but is safe and you can twist your front lines out while riding with out taking of your safety leash off.The middle lines twist when you roll or loop.
You could buy the 2014 swivel for about $80 and get rid of your old one as that will no dought be a death trap .
Dont skimp on safety .If you buy the whole bar and lines then you have new lines as your 2008 lines will break soon. Its worth spending the extra cash!

Hey mate thats some awesome info in there, just what I need. It's such a different sport with so much to learn and only having mates who are also learning it good to be able to ask people in the know. So im sure I'll have more questions but that should at least get me in the write direction. Now all we need is some good wind :) See you out there and thanks once again!

only one surfboard?

agree with just about all you said, except that anyone could say that is excessive - you need to branch out a bit with your surfboard set

but on the rest - nice quiver and great advice i reckon

I will be investing in surf boards next summer.only normal surfboards though as the kitesurfboards at 700 to 1500 a pop is pricey.
I like the idea of a normal surf board with a good light wind shape for cruisy down winders in 15 to 18 knots.Nice and light for strapless and at roughly 1 or 200 a pop on gumtree.i can try heaps of different shapes.Im only looking at riding small waves atm.

yeah fair enough.. you'll go through them, but that's half the fun isn't it. i have done my trial and error normal surfboard phase, and then got a custom with a blue blank and stronger glass at extra cost but in a shape i thought would go alright. time will tell if it lasts but i'm hoping the extra cost is worth it. sickeningly though, i still pick up my super lightly glassed and pock marked non-custom just about every session still and can't seem to shake my froth on riding it over everything else in little beachies - it will pay the price soon haha

also, i haven't found too many i would actually want to ride under $200, but there is always a nugget here and there if you are on the look out! enjoy!
