Having read all the threads on the WAKSA meetings and taking on board all the really good suggestions for our sport, I got to thinking that maybe there was another avenue to pursue. (Forgive me if it's already been said orsuggested)
If there was some sort of "recognition" (I.E T-Shirt, Kite patch etc) that could be given to the guys that go through our main Kitesurfing teachers / schools (Fulltilt, Choicey, Peli Point, Ian Young) then at least we would know that they are trained to certain safety standards and have an awareness of the local area and rules. I know the patches etc have already been mentioned but the fact that we can acquire them from our "local" instructors / schools would kind of start the right vibes off at the root.
What do you think?

I think that this is a good idea but perhaps we should consider going further and try to achieve some convergence of interest between Trainers, Retailers and WAKSA.

All have the common objective of promoting both numbers in the sport and safety in the sport.

Trainers could perhaps consider offering one year’s discounted membership to WAKSA as part of the first lesson, if nothing else for the peace of mind, which the insurance cover provides.
WAKSA could perhaps consider offering to trainers a first year special price for first-time pupils who complete at least two lessons. It is then up to WAKSA, having obtained a new member, to convince them to stay after the first year.
Retailers should at least encourage new entrants to join WAKSA and be able to provide a flyer, which details the benefits and have membership forms at the counter to close the deal.

This is only my suggestion to get WAKSA numbers up.

I have no interest nor involvement in WAKSA but if ever a new, high risk sport needed good representation in order to avoid accidents and bans, kite surfing is it.
