Just a quick question; I was out at Floriet today and there are these yellow markers there, are they the drum lines? I was using them as my marker until it dawned on me that they might be so decided to learn my jibes further in as im still pretty average and spend more time in the water than jibing

On a side note be careful there because when I returned to my car at the top carpark it had been broken into
Spoke to another guy and he hot hit the week before,.. ****S!

my fear too I'm at the same stage when jibing, but used them as markers too. But now I will stay away from them, just in case.

Hey guys,
The yellow markers are the Dept of Fisheries shark 'pinger' buoys which track shark movements. They are just acoustic receivers, which pick up acoustic signals coming from sharks which have been tagged with acoustic transmitters.
Therefore, no risk of 'bait' attracting sharks to them, they're just like any other marker buoy in the ocean.
Interestingly though, when a shark does 'ping' on of those buoys, if you are riding with GPS on, you could check the timing of the 'ping' vs your track-plot to see how close to the shark you were!
Cheers.
Dan.

BTW - the drum-lines are generally two or three large pink buoys..... for future reference.

are you with fisheries danno?

i knew the above as well but i thought by not answering it would help the guys with incentive to stick their jibes more often this summer

hey Gazuki, which top carpark? do you mean right in front of floreat groyne? that sucks if so, always thought that one was a bit safer due to more people frequenting that one, compared to some of the other carparks on the stretch. ****ing scum

Yeah thats the one. I always thought the same, especially this day because it was just after lunch on Sunday and there were still heaps of people around after the city to surf. Pretty brazen.
I drove around for ages checking all of the other carparks waiting to launch my vigilante attack but no luck. Leave it up to the kama police, they always catch up.

That sucks Gazuki.

Bit surprising as there's usually a few crew in the carpark as the banks have been ok for a little while.
