To the swarms of downwinder "superheroes" blasting through the beach break of the metro coast of late... You're not posing for the next cover of Kiteworld magazine. You aren't that good and never will be.

So perhaps instead of thinking you're a kiting superhero, think of the Dad teaching his kid to boogie board you just about ran over.

Or the surfer who has been waiting for a wave in crappy beach slop for 15 minutes whose wave you just stole.

Or the other kiters you nearly tangled lines with, or cut off, or didn't look for on a tack.

You have no regard for right of way, or even common courtesy. You're not a hero, you're not even very good.

You're just a self-involved dckhead who is going to get someone hurt (or worse), and get kiting and downwinders banned from certain beaches. We clear?

Yep. It's getting out of control.

They may have to learn how to kite upwind when we all get banned from dwers.

Don't get me wrong, I've been on some downwinders in Perth metro too, and love it. But for eff's sake, it's one of the least crowded metro areas in the world and there is plenty of ocean and waves for all users. So have a goddam look around and back the eff off, and head out the back if you see other water users ahead of you. There's about 10, 000 other waves to catch out there and ride on an open section of beach. You don't have to be a tosser your whole life.

Its a city and if you want quiet beach with space .What you doing living in Perth?.A potential 1.3 million beach users all converging in one stretch of beach.There is some nice chilled out beachs around north beach and sorrento areas.I would suggest trying that.That car you drove into get to the beach is also dangerous and hazardous to the surfer with a surfboard under his arm going to the beach or the father teaching his kid how to ride a bike.Its a city if you cant handle crowds its time to move to the country

By this logic you would believe it's ok to take your ute onto a cycle path and have no regard for those who are not looking out for such a dangerous individual???
There are so few flagged swimming beaches, surely a DW'er can avoid these for the sake of harmony in a strained social environment?

What waves?? I did a downwinder in Perth on the weekend, didn't run any surfers, kids or dads over! And didn't see any waves, your waves are crap!!

Congratulations on not running anyone over. You don't get a medal though, that's just having some common sense. And as for the quality of waves...that wasn't the point of the post - to talk about wave quality - now was it? cheers.

There is always going to wingers and fun police.Down winders are fun and people do down winder because its an injoyabale activity.I do it for fun and its great for keeping in shape.Fremantle to Trigg is a great place to learn how to get into kite wave riding.The waves are small and are certainly not hardcore hence being a forgiving area to learn .At some stage all board riding and water users had to learn somewhere and once again its not only kitesurfers in the water.There is all water users there including surfers ,wind surfers ,bodyboarders ,SUPers ,swimers kayakers ,boats enthusiast ,jet skis and people who go in the water and cant swim.
How many times has someone got hit in the head from swiming right in front of a paddle surfer...100,000 times?.
Its a busy beach and it always will be.Scarborough is a place where people want to go and look activity.They go there because they want to have a day of listening to music at the amphitheatre or going to the pub for a few beers or to lazzing on the beach and watch the world go by.
People dont go there for a deserted beach where there is not another person for 100 kms!
I would personally not take my kids to that swimming area next to the Brighton rigging point.Why would you take your kids there.There are flags right next to a kite rigging point.Its just a bit of common sense .There are so many beaches through the northern parts of the city where there are no kites.
Its so much safer there for snorkelling ,swimming and sitting around without a kite blocking out the sun over your head.

Perth is the starting point for most holiday makers coming to WA .WA is world renown for a kitesurfing holiday.Perth just happens to have an airport where all those internationals fly into and city beach scarborough is the first place they are going to visit.Tourism its called!.

If you dont like it because there are to many people there dont go there!.

If you do like it. Keep having fun and live your life free of winging and negativity .Most people do the right thing and for those who break the rules ...dont!.We are just like every other water user .We have passion for the water and are not in it for the image!.To say where in it for the image is just someones view. That view is just a grain of sand in the spectrum of the universe!

Firstly, I get the point, but just because:

- there are people swimming at Brighton
- there are other beaches with no kites
- you personally would take your kids between the flags

well, this does not relinquish you of your duty of care to other water users.


Secondly, the essential problem lies with kiters kiting through flags and no-go zones:

- Floreat surf club between the buoys
- Between the City Beach groins
- Cott Main to Grant Street
- Scarbs surf club to Manning Street
- Peasholm dog beach.

Missed the point entirely. Plenty of water and waves out there for everyone. Sounds like it's just impossible for you to think about anyone but yourself. Another product of the modern "me, me, me" society. I'll still be out there enjoying myself, giving others space where it's warranted. But I won't be getting out of the way anymore for dickhe*ds like you who think they own the place. You don't. Grow up.

There is so much negativity in this world . People constantly trying to bring you down ..If your going to take a swipe and call out all this superhero garbage..!!!!!!..If you dont realise that there are swarms of swimmers, surfers,,drunk people swimming,Supers , kayakers all geting in each others way and that kiters are the only problem on the beach .Then you are self involved!.The whole stretch of beach is busting at the seams!.I also swim at this beach and Surf and realise that this is a beach that is dangerous.This is a city and everyone is competing for space.I agree that kiters break the rules .So do people that cant swim that swim outside the flags ,Surfers that drift through the flags,Surfers that surf straight into a crowd of swimmers.Swimmers that move into a place where surfers are geting good waves, drunk people swimming,people kicking the footy right next to the family with young kids.The list goes on an on.People everywhere causes congestion and even you are part of the crowd superman breaking the rules.So next time you want to blame it all on the downwinder kiters think about the fact that you might be apart of the problem Iron man!.Open your eyes people everyone that uses that beach is apart of the problem.Understand your environment be aware of everything thats going on around you will keep you safe.playing the blame game wont solve anything.
