Went down to kite at Leighton yesterday around 2pm. Was going to leave my 9m in the car but just as I was locking up two girls came off the beach and found thier car with a broken window and lots of stolen gear. So took all my stuff on the beach with me. Be careful !

Sadly this is all too common at Leighton. I got broken into there earlier this season while I was out racing in the L2L. Just to steal some sunglasses that were visible in the cup holder. Prescription ones at that - useless to the thief. A guy I talked to afterwards who regularly kites there (and has also been broken into there) says he drives down, assesses conditions, then goes home to get the right kite and comes back. Never leaves a kite in the car.


Normally I kite in the Scarborough / Trigg area, and there seems to be much less of it up here. Not sure why.

Iv parked up at Leighton to check the surf in my pos work ute just walked a few paces to the crest of the dune and noticed a white commodore pull up and some trash bag jump out and into my car (I was keeping an eye out cos i knew I'd left it unlocked). Raced down and he just took off as I got my phone out and piced his licence plate. He got about $3.50 out my centre console.. Damn lock nest monster.

But true story never leave anything in your car near Leighton the cops sounded like they received the same call every day.
