Hi There,

Looking for ideas for 1 or 2 weeks holiday somewhere warm second half of August.
I need:
- nice beaches
- good snorkeling / free diving
- good kitesurf (but not looking at kiting everyday) and / or surf (but not too big 'cause I'm not that good)
- don't want to stay in big hotel resort
- less than 12 h flight

Ideas so far:
- somewhere towards Cairns
- Vanuatu
- Fiji
- somewhere in Indonesia

Any recommendation of specific locations would be greatly appreciated, especially if you can advise on good accommodation alternatives!

Thanks a lot!

Have you considered Cocos Keeling Islands?

I did a trip with Zephyr Kite Tours last year at the end of August.

Predictable winds, fantastic beaches and all round a great spot. There's plenty of snorkeling spots too and the booze is tax free :-)

I was so impressed I'm going back again this year.

You should check it out.

Port Douglas.

Can be hit and miss with the wind but you'll get a good few days in around that time.
Can jump on a boat to the Great Barrier.
Great relaxing vibe.

I've been up there the last 2 years and heading back this weekend.

Thanks for the ideas

digitalkiwi: Port Douglas is actually first option... so far

horace: That is one original destination, thanks. But apparently all flights are all booked out already for this period, at least with Virgin...

vendeavours: MP ;-)

Good choice! I'm heading up this weekend with my family for a week, and am staying on four mile beach. I am taking my 12m and a 136 cm twinnie, so hopefully there will be some wind!

I'm packing up my gear today and my two "big" kites are a 17m Fat Lady and a 12m North Rebel. I can only take one and as I weigh 90 kgs, was wondering if anybody has any suggestions as to which kite I should take?

I'm no local but from what I've seen in the last 10 days go the 17m, better to be a bit over than sitting on the beach waiting.
