So got up nice and early this morning and headed to Rosebud as the wind was showing above 20knts. In reality it was barely rideable. I don't think anyone was holding ground including 17m.

So my idea is that we use this forum to inform people what the conditions are actually doing on the day. I saw a lot of people that had driven down from Melbourne to be very disappointed.

Possibly we can have a topic heading for each of the spots eg Rosebud, Altona, Balnarring, Angelsea ect. This will make it easy to search the spot your going to. First down there can update then people can update throughout the day.

Eg. Winds cranking 20-25. Low tide, 20 kiters out. Bring 9m and beers.

It wasn't a total loss as I did a downwinder with my bro but in hindsight I should have brought my bigger kite.

Just a thought.

As a general rule of thumb for Rosebud take whatever the south channel is showing and deduct 5-6knots.

You should always bring more than one kite. Conditions can change from the time you take the reading at home to when you get there.

I was wondering if there was wind down there, I went for a surf at Gunna then later thought I should have gone kiting instead. You really need the south channel to be 20 knots before you venture down

Took a couple of kites and wind readings stayed the within about 3 knots the whole time I was there. We came from Merricks so 30mins if I was coming from Melb I would have brought them all. Anyway I think made a subconscious decision not to take the 15m as I used it on Friday night and it was a little boring so I didn't want two of those sessions in a weekend.

Yeah that was the problem tho. South channel was blowing least 20knts for a 4 hour period... Yet donuts at rosebud.Yeah even saw 17's going straight down wind.Plenty of disappointed people sitting on the beach.

Two things:

Yes, real time 'on the ground' condition reports from kiters would be awesome. Suspect people choose not to, to avoid bug crowds...

As for Rosebud, i set my alarm for 6am today. Checked the weather in bed and decided to go back to sleep. As others said, rosey needs above 20 knots on the live wind readings and cooler temperatures. Today had neither of those variables unfortunately...

I left at 7:30 when it was showing about 23knts. As for the temp thing didn't know about that as normally in kiting there in winter or on cooler days than today.

I think on hot days you get hot air rising off the peninsula land mass pushing the northerly over rosebud
