Thanks mate, was a decent swim in but not regretting letting go of the kite one bit, I'm glad I got in okay to was decent size out there.

Lesson to be Learnt:

- Be prepared to let go of your kite out there if you get into strife particularly in offshore winds

- Be a confident in your swimming to be able to get yourself to shore in the conditions you are entering. Gunnamatta is an extremely rough beach and I'm very thankful to my parents for teaching me how to swim in the ocean.

- Call the water police straight after it happens if you lost a kite, they are very thankful.

Hey Declan,

I arrived to see your kite in the water and a few sets rolling through..

I was keeping an eye out just in case that rip grabbed you.. Its a really hard beach to swim in against if you lose a board between the larger sets..

*I don't think surfers understand when a kite is down like that - that it is a problem..

The kite seemed to pretty quickly be on its way after ditched :(

Can always buy another kite.. Good to hear your ok!

Im just starting out with the kite(surf)ing so was down to have a look.

think I might start on the smaller waves!

far out, stressful. I always wear an impact vest (really its just a floatie) because of situations like this.

Gunnamatta certainly is a gnarly beach... the last 5m of the swim in was probably the most dangerous! Glad you got in safe.
