Hi, I was kiting in the broadwater today and was near a sandbar across from sea world. I was aggressively abused verbally by a windsurfer ( older man ) that I was in the windsurfers "turf" and I had to get out!!. I don't believe that this is correct as the broadwater is shared by everyone. I have been a kitesurfer for 12 years ( not a beginner and not someone who does tricks ) and never had this happen to me before. Of course he made me very angry and I gave him the bird, but he also disrupted the fantastic time I was sharing with everyone out there. Can this person please be made to stop this as I have heard he did it to someone else as well. Please grow up cranky windsurfer !

Ahhh, this old chestnut........

www.seabreeze.com.au/forums/Windsurfing/Queensland/Why-Cant-we-all-get-along/

I note that u didn't post ur complaint in the qld windsurfing section?

I kite up at that bank quite often with the windsurfers and have never had a problem. If u take a minute and study the loop they are doing it is quite easy to "fit in" whilst staying out of each others way. Generally, u would hug the bank on a starboard tack and be at least 20m away from it on ur return port tack.

I usually find that if u have a problem with someone it is better to sort it out with a reasonable approach there and then.

Hi, thanks for the link. I was doing all those things. I was taking my turn and giving way when I needed to. I don't think he would ever see this. Oh well. If I post it in the windsurfing section I think I would get abused more : )

You were "abused" by a windsurfer? Can you show us on the teddy bear where he touched you?

The wind surfers anger is just their way of expressing the frustration and sadness in their life for choosing such a lame hobby- mowing the grass would drive any body crazy

My post does say verbally if you read it. Lame jokes are not really necessary. Thanks

I saw and observed a quarrel from the distance. I think, frustration comes purely from a safety concern. This is dedicated speed strip and guys are doing speeds well in access of 30 knots regularly with not much margin for error. Jumping in such place could be unwise and what I heard from the distance was " no jumping, please !"
The more we sail along windsurfers and kiters the better cooperation is once we observe and respect habits and limitations of each discipline.

We both got enough trouble with fishermen , anglers, crab pots and boat owners claiming the territory to fight each other.
I could see perfect example of cooperation at busy KFC site where natural separation occurs - kiters taking over slightly shallower sites at the left and right, then windsurfers in the choppy middle, and there is also plenty of space for both kite and windsurf beginners to play.

This is the sort of argument that should be sorted out in the car park!!!

How about we come to a deal. Kiters can have the Broadwater, but they have to stay away from Wello??

Or just some 'you me carpark now'?? lol

But seriously!!

No you must be mistaken for another as I said I don't do jumps. I'm a boring up and down kiter who likes a bit of speed.
Wish I hadn't said anything as this is getting silly.
There was no need for the abuse I received and I will continue to kite where ever I like. I have never hurt anyone. People need to realize no one owns the water space.

I also saw the incident on that day,as for any verbal abuse there was none.
You were asked from a distance to keep clear of the windsurfers on the bank as you were endangering both youself and the windsurfers.
You nearly took out two guys with your lines on the bank .
You were asked to keep clear as you showed no respect for right of way rule.
Your response was you know what your doing ,and will do what you like.
Your attitude in your last post shows your lack of respect for other people on the water,
sure you can continue to kite where you like ,as no ones owns the water but dont endanger others.
We all share the same passion for wind and water .

Boom. Thank you @Monaro for sheading some light.
The windsurfers in GoldCoast are all legendary guys. it would be you're own stupidity that caused you to get a mouthful. Glad I wasn't there otherwise I'd have given you a mouthful too!

What a pathetic statement. The poleys have been there long before you started kiting and have a good system setup. Respect it and keep out of their way.

The windsurfers i have kited with on the coast have always been pretty cool. The odd grumpy one, but you know- the older you get the grumpier you get lol......... you start talking to yourself in your head about how good it (and you) used to be before the world changed... I'll probably be there soon... :-)

show respect for sure I don't think there is really a problem between kiters and windsurfers at all - my fave spot you would need a seriously short fin on your windsurfer - like 12cm long lol

OOOOOOOOOOHHH!!!!!! BOOOOOOOM! You didnt think of that did you!!!

Oh and by the way plenty of Kiters have no issue with the pole shredders out there.. 12 years of experience seemingly hasn't taught you any manners.
Be safe and share the water ways, don't waste everyone's bandwidth on complaints in forums.

We could do ''GC water battles'' and make a Tv series ?Lets practise
I was verbally abused at the train on the weekend , Im allowed there and like to go near the bank too .
did a jump on my way back and old mate couldn't help himself wasn't even close ?
I like to go near the bank opposite direction to the sailboarders and attempt tricks . Im allowed there .
Will respond in my own way to any abuse . It was fun
Going to be there more and will give way to all nice sailboarders

I run the banks & jump all the time, I make sure I'm out of there way when they are on a speed run, never had a problem, just stay out of there way, they have been running the banks a lot longer than us and deserve some space.

They can stick their loop circuit up their arse, I will kite where I want to kite, they don't own the broad water. Ive never hit any of them nor have i got in their way.
Dude, I know the cranky old bastard your talking about - he should put all that anger in yelling into learning how to wind surf better.

Nobgod , again this comes up with YOU and your lack of respect for other users of the broadwater. Let me help you here, we the windsurfers have no problem with kite surfers, paddle boarders, fishermen or boaters but if we were to consistently get in your way(like YOU do) i believe you would get upset. The sailer you had the problem with is one of the most melo people you will meet, so for him to go off at you, had done something.
To the rest for the Kiters, we happily sail with you just look before you stall then turn or jump. We are just like you sailing is our way of relaxing as well, we sail because we enjoy it not to get in arguments.
Have a good day
