Hello Guys!
I'm going on a road trip from Melbourne to Port Lincoln along the coast.
I will driving along the coast and thinking to take the kite with me.
Could you give me some advice for some good spots along the coast from Port Augusta down to PL?
I believe I stay in PL for maybe a week. I've seen a shop there and will go there for advice and rules but would much appreciate further advice from you guys! I hope it's not top secret like in some other places
Thanks CS
PS: intermediate rider 12/9m TT (no big waves)
Bro you are right up my Department here: sweet
there is Jack **** from Port Augusta to Whyalla - theres a secret spot on the way but too much effort for your time
first kite you will get is Whyalla, the Whyalla boys are all cool and will look after you, but you need high tide on their main beach, it gets sick seabreezes in summer, but check the tides for high tide and wait on the forum for the crew to reply to the thread. its flat water, flat flat wake style.
Not much until you get to Cowel, then theres not much there, you can flat water with the ferry at Lucky Bay, if you are hitting cowell just about Seabreeze time and want to kite and stay the night then you can kite out the front of the shacks north of the Ferry, (obviously you will need to go up the beach and stay away from the ferry, its flat chop and the locals will think you are either amazing or a nut, (I have never done it and it would be like going to a south pacific Isld where they never seen kite surfing) they are shack owners and not really keen on anyone knowing what a secret spot they have, if it were me I would do the flats at Whyalla and stay with the boys there and have a beer. then press on the next day, but its a nice flat beach.
You can do Arno Bay and Port Neil but you have to go well north along the beach as these spots are really protected, as a kite surfer I never bother, more flat water. there is a secrete surf spot in the Arno area but its not worth worrying about on a kite and the locals are protective, again don't bother
to be honest we always just bee line for Lincoln, when there you will need to hook up with Easto and Jaqui at Xtremekitepaddle in Lincoln, check their site
You will be looking for a run at Fisheries bay for waves or Wreak Beach, if you want flat water you can try Coffin Bay Long beach
the other reality is that Port Lincoln can be very fickle with Seabreeze, you are really relying on fronts or good seabreeze days, it can be good but there is no clockwork seabreeze, its cooler temperate and there is no real desert or city. I lived there and still go back and as a rule its not a real mecca top 10 destination for kiting, I go there to surf and kite some of the bigger surf spots which will have to remain a secret, its a great ocean destination. Easto will sort you out, check with him about North Shields in Lincoln, don know if the airport prohibits kiting there, its flat water.
if you are there an I am not I will be Jealous, its the best bit of coast, I dream about it all day long
