The Eyre Peninsula is well worth the drive from Sydney will not disapoint. Would be close to be being equally windy as WA very consistent winds. December can be very hot but this usually turbo charges the seabreeze. The peninsula has it all from flat, waves beauty and the beast. From Whyalla your first stop on the peninsula along to Pt Lincoln plenty of spots to enjoy along the way. No need to travel far each day to find something new. After Lincoln through to Ceduna is Gods country plenty of wildlife and Natural beauty. Wifey will not be dispaointed. Just be aware you will not be kiting in a crowd till your home again. Just try and get as much local info before heading off, consequences off heading into the unknown can be nasty.
One thing for sure you won't find a more chilled out zone locals are very welcoming and there is an ever growing community of kiters.

I see Ceduna is another 400km past Port Lincoln, I'm not sure I'm keen to head that far into that direction, as we'll prob only have 2 weeks at the most. Unless there's a place that makes it worth it... I'll find out where my sister and family are heading and most likely stay in the vicinity around there.

I lived on Lower Eyre Pen for 10 Years and have traveled there for 25 years. As Gwendy says watch out as it is one of the best places on earth. There is a reality check for you however:
Lower Eyre Pen not really a consistent wind spot, sorry but its just not. It is more a weather pattern based wind and there is not a true clockwork sea-breeze, the clock work sea breeze is Elliston and above, Streaky and Ceduna have sea breezes that is like WA but there is a long way between beaches. You can get really good wind but you can also have long periods without.

I can remember many long days of nothing at the supposed sea-breeze time of year. Coffin Bay peninsula is very weather pattern dependent, there is really only one place to kite there called sensation beach (where you cant camp) but I would not do a specific kite trip for that, there are plenty of other small onshore waves that are closer than this to you. Dec may be hot or might be cold. impossible to say, generally the temperature is milder than Adelaide as its surrounded by water. If its hot there will be no wind. then it will howl when the change comes and maybe even rain.

You might have a late fly season, usually Sept to Oct the flies come out, they normally die off in the first cold snap, but you never know, some of the more remote locations they can drive you insane. then again there might be no flies.

There are quite a few places to flat water kite. Definitely, small wave - Fisheries bay is the local

If you don't like sharks, don't bother going.

Port Lincoln is the main town and is good for a freshen up and proper accommodation.

The place is more about Nature and how you entertain yourself in the raw and rough terrain and small towns, if you want to be entertained by whatever metro people do then its not the place.

oh yeah and the sun will fry you like a chip. I worked in Sydney for many years and can attest to the difference. you can get burnt in 10 minutes, wear a hat
