Currently riding a 134 Naish monarch with boots, fairly happy with the board tho i do think it flexes a bit to much on landings sometimes causing high speed nosedives, its pretty weak too its my second one and just like the first one its slowly cracking down the middle, although its lasted pretty good ever since the crack started.
I was going to replace it with either a north Gambler (136) or a tona pop (138) but i have heard some good things about the new cab custom, i know there is 2 of them so not to sure about the differences. i dont wanna be stuck with a board that feels like im towing a wind sock like some wakestyle boards feel like.
what do you lot recon?

I dont reckon you can go past the pop, I honestly havent ridden the other boards but the pop felt so lively under my feet and poping it was just a dream, with great height and nice landings, felt like i didnt even need to try. It is a very heavy board but it honestly didnt feel like that in the water, Though carting it all the way to the waters edge at low tide at sandgate i noticed the weight. for comparability I was riding a 12m on the pop 138 in 22-25knots and i weigh 80kg. I have also heard good things about them regarding construction and breakability but again i dont own one so i haven't been able to thrash it good and proper. Good luck with your decision.

Try and demo a airush livewire
I have been riding one since the beginning of this year and find it really fun to ride
I'm not really a wake style rider and when I first saw the board I didn't think I would like it as it has a lot of rocker. But on the water it doesn't feel like you are pulling a sea anchor around like some other heavy rocker boards. It feels really efficient and goes upwind well at least as well as my old ProToy
It pops well and lands really well.

Glendog,The Custom is a really nice board. I ride it interchangeably with my XCal Signature. The CBL has a fair bit more rocker than the standard does but it is also lighter. I think at your weight you would find the 140 CBL a really good board. I have to ride the 144 at 86kgs and it works great for me. Definitely harder to get upwind than on the standard version. I think the 140 standard is an awesome board but if you want something super fast and poppy then consider the XCal. More of a comp board for sure but it goes big. The Pop is also really nice... was riding it for a while when I got here. I liked the 138 size a lot (it's actually 139). It has around 45-50 mm rocker which is actually reasonably low meaning it has crazy good low end for a wakestyle board. Nice mix of stiffness with a bit of flex in the tips and awesome grip. Best of all with the Pop...I guarantee you will not be able to break it. I rode it into rocks, up beaches, on rails, over reef... thing is bombproof. You can't go wrong with either mate.

tona make amazing products, iv had my pop for a wile now, and give it an absolute flogging, bonking of shiiiit and and hitting dodgy rails, and running up the beach over rocks and its held up really well. pop, and the name says is awesome. low end is crazy, it is a very fast board. heavy, yes, but fast and more rotation. you will nail that KGB for sure.
iv only ever had ago on 1 other wake stile board and it was the nash dub. and the pop shiits over it in every way, speed, pop and landings.

have a go mate, if you hit up KP bris you can have a demo.

oh I forgot to say, the only time I feel the weight of the board is when iv been trying to throw passes and mobes all day and your arms feel like jelly and your boots are soaked and you have to lug this board 700m walk back across the flats.
ok I think that covers the pop!!

peace out

yeh sweet, so nobody really has anything bad to say about the pop, they are also a fair bit cheaper than the other boards i think thats what ill get. yeh kemp i tried a naish dub last year and i recon it was an absolute piece of sh!t.

i actually had a go of a mates pop a few weeks ago but it was about 30knotts and it had straps on it. i cant ride straps at all plus i was fully over powered so i didnt really get a good feel for it.
Thanks guys.

yeh not sure what they were thinking with the dub, on the other had some people ride the dub really well, the dub I tried was Ewan's old board he sold, and he shreds on it, but then agen he could prob shred on a sheet of ply from bunnings!

Not as much slack as a fuel or any other c kite but i have been using it in wakestyle setting which gives heaps more slack than the freestyle setting. And more than any other bow kite ive used, The main reasons i like them is they dont pull like a truck like bow kites and there is plenty of feel for the kite, the wind range is really good, (better than any full c kite ive tried), and i feel comfortable unhooking the whole way threw the wind range. Also they dont make drastic changes each year like most other kites so you know what your gonna get.

Hey!

Tona employee here. We do use a sintered base material for both The Pop and The Flow.

A couple other companies do use "slider bases" on their boards, Axis is one of them and I believe North might for their Gambler, but I think dafunk is right in saying we're the only one with a Sintered base.

Let me know if y'all have any other questions I can answer.

you know what, that is a damn good question. In the US we usually slip a couple of stickers in the package when we ship, but not sure about the SOP out where you're at.

The Cabrinha Custom CBL uses US sourced Sintered Ptex for its bottom sheet. It is the best material ive found for feel and life on rails.

Just saw the new 2015 Liquid Force wake style board.
Looks insane and is a bit lighter than the dlx. Price is not bad compared to some.
Hopefully have a demo in a month

Ive used the pop about for about 10 hours its sweet when your powered even better overpowered grips like crazy ive gotten some of my biggest pops from it however in lighter conditions it feels a bit slow where my freestyle board (team series) is a bit faster then again maybe i might need to adjust my technique. For me Im gonna be looking at a board with the best of both worlds like the LF DLX, Livewire, Profanity ect but who knows maybe once ive demoed all the boards from my list the pop could be the best.

@Salty The POP only has like 45mm rocker.. I find it exceptional in marginal conditions for a wakestyle board. PS the Livewire and Profanity DEFINITELY has as much or more rocker (certainly the Profanity, I rode it for years)

@Drury just my personal comparison between hoping on a freestyle directly after being on the pop. I haven't physically looked at them boards yet that's why i was saying I could be wrong anyways can you give me any ideas on what boards i should look at which is an inbetween wakestyle to freestyle board?

@Salty if you want something that rides well with boots but is still fast and goes upwind well then look at competition style boards. I ride the XCaliber Signature 138x42. It has around 40mm of rocker so it is still quite fast and light but rides great with boots. It uses biax carbon on it which is virtually unbreakable (on flat water tricks, these don't have grind bases so don't ride them on rails). The majority of boards I have ridden I snap in half - the two XCals I rode this season still look almost new. The reason I love this style of board is that it carries so much speed into your tricks but doesn't break your knees when you land.

The Axis Limited is a great board as well. It has a bit more flex to it and about 5mm more rocker but again it is a great board for boots. It, like the XCaliber Sig, is in between a wakestyle board and a traditional comp board. You'll find that more and more as most pros are riding boots on the tour that companies are adding slightly more rocker and stronger inserts to their boards. This means you can get a faster riding board that is still great for wakestyle tricks.

used the pop at cable today. and honestly its the first cable session iv actually enjoyed (i've only been 3 times before) cant really give a review because cable isnt kiting but as somebody said in this thread earlier it felt like iv been riding this board for ages, felt so comfortable right from the start. cant wait to kite on it.
