got a possible problem on one of my new ozone chicken loops:

It appears that the grey rope inside the loop that has the small tab connected has stretched !
this is the little tab that folds down and goes under the red release collar. Also at the end is a little half hook that goes into the bolt ,so seating the actual loop into the assembly
Thing is on mine the grey rope has stretched so the tab goes in under the collar BUT the hook isnt tight in the assembly so all the weight is on the tab and the hook is actually out of the assembly which cant be right ....can it ??

anyone else noticed this ?? is there a way to shorten/tighten the grey rope ??

cheers

All your weight is supposed to be on the tab, this is normal. The little 1/2 hook is never engaged to bolt once you hook up to harness, little bit of a gimmick. Wouldn't worry about it unless it affects you unhooking.

Yep, noticed this after I had used it only about half a dozen times. As ex says, it's not a major issue but, when ur spending a large amount of ur hard earned on quality equipment, u want complete satisfaction. I raised the issue with my local supplier who acknowledged the problem and he told me that he had about eight other people bring it to his attention. The main concern we discussed is the rope wearing on other parts around it from being loose. As a result, he said he was going to contact Ozone and organize new chicken loops to keep in stock and replace as necessary. Just speak to your supplier pete, seems like a common problem.
BTW, there is no adjustment on the rope.

The stretch is normal up to a point, but it does not affect the safety or operation of the c-loop, that small half hook piece is to assist loading the c-loop when the rope is new and tight, but it does not hold any load at all.
If you have any concerns speak with your Ozone dealer.

cheers guys....just e mailing some photos through to the uk dealer now.
i actually noticed it a few weeks back , but at the time thought it wasnt seated quite right to landed and re-loaded it...

i can see that the tab takes all the weight so should be no issues but maybe a mark 2 could maybe allow the line to be adjusted/put some non stretch in the chicken loop .

will see what is said

cheers all

happy new year and a heres to a windy ,warm and safe 2014

well what ya know ?? just messed about with it and if you open out the chicken loop and put your feet on the bar and pull just the black outside tubing...it all goes back nice and tight again !!!

the loop certainly feels a lot more secure once tight and the rope end cant move around in the jaws..

so i reckon beofre launching just give the tubing a stretch and it'll work fine for the session /few sessions

happy days

Hi new to this forum but felt I had to replay to this tread!
Today I was testing the ozone c4 with the long C-loop, the kite was used 4-5 times the line had stretch to the point were the half hook piece was outside the assembly.
And if you test to pull the safety with the slightest side force on the c-loop the distance is approx 1/4 of the normal distance (1-2mm) for me this is a big safety concern and nothing that can be explained away with that the tab is only there for use when the c-loop is new!! I also think that the plastic (the red realese) will break quit soon if you continue to use the c-loop like this!

cheers

Hi Johan

The half U shaped locator piece primary function is to terminate the black PU tube and it secondarily forms a convenient solid and hollow base for the amsteel line to pass through before it attaches to the release tab that sits under the red push away.
There will be a small amount of stretch in all of the chicken loops, if the distance between the U shaped locator and the stainless safety tab, then just pull on the black PU tube, this will close up the distance to how the bar comes new straight off the shelf, but will make it slightly more difficult to reload the chicken loop.
The distance that the red push away moves before it releases the safety tab and chicken loop is not affected by the position of the U shaped piece, so your concerns are unfounded.
The Push Away Megatron has gone through extensive testing and was manufactured to meet the French standard for load release, the release load is very low and is release mechanism and load is unaffected by the load on the chicken loop.

We use the Ozone Catalysts and bars in our very busy school and I know of several other schools and instructors around Australia using them too, none are reporting any issues at all. Here are some pics showing how far a well used Megatron Push Away has to move, before it releases, with average stretch in the amsteel core of the Chicken Loop. I've also made a short video which I'll upload later.
