yes, a fish board rocks in light wind and small waves

but i think robbie naish made that board for ronald mcdonald and his big red feet

I've got 4 surfboards I use with a kite. I like them all. Each has it's limitations & suitabilities. I've ended up using my Naish alot. It's not a super light wind board, but a very good allrounder. It handles bigger surf, but not ideal. Great for messing around on flat water, smaller waves, getting you out early on your fav kite. A bit heavy for my liking.

Yep, regular fish surfboards are 21 wide (straightish rail outline and flatish rocker)

the extra width = a few meters of kite

and i have found in light winds you can flatten out the board and drive off the fins really hard upwind (i assume that is how a race board works ?? )

i've not used a naish fish but by looking at it i recon you'd spend 95% of the time out of the straps

I tried both the north nugget and naish fish back to back a few weeks ago and the nugget felt better in every way , went up wind real ezy and was lots of fun in small waves .

How does the North Nugget compare with a Cardboard Wave?

Hi Ice,

The Cardboard Wave 148 is a totally different style to the North Nugget. The North Nugget is a full surfboard whereas the Wave is a mutant style board.

The Nugget is wider, especially in the tail and nose, deep double concave and has a true Quad fin setup.

The Wave is more tucked in the tail, has moderate double concave, thruster fins (80mm) and twin tip shaped nose with twinny fins.

The Nugget is designed as a light wind smaller wave fun board. It is loose, planes super early, has very little rocker to allow speed and early planing, the Nugget snaps tight turns and has grab rails for strapless airs. It is light and strong. A really surprising board that needs a demo to believe what it's capable of.

The Cardboard Wave is for more powered riding and can ride backwards equally well on the nose. It is heavier and virtually impossible to break. It comes strapped and would be difficult to ride strapless. It needs to be ridden backwards or toeside one way. It's made for powered carves and boosting off waves. A more crossover board for those who crave more than just wave riding.

Depending how far from a surfboard you want to go the airush quad would be worth trying. Fun board strapped or strapless and will surprise you how easily it goes upwind when it's lite.
