Hi All,

I am contemplating buying a surf board.
I tried that a few years ago but it didn't gel at the time. Got more surf experience through SUP boarding and also the kites I had at the time where a factor.
With that in mind I am looking for second hand. The ones we get here in NZ are mostly the bigger brands like Cabrinha, Slingshot and Naish.
What are the general trades an easy to use board has, like: size, shape, tail shape, fin set up strapped option??
Do the manufacturers descriptions stack up with reality??
I will start of in smaller waves. In general waves here are pretty messy so ease of use is high on the list.
Boards that I have seen for sale: SS Celeritas 2012, SS t-rex 2014, Naish Global 2014
Any advice is welcome guys.

thanks

Rene

Hi Rene

The SS Celeritas 2012 is a nice board with a decent rocker in the nose, should be okay in the messy stuff. Good for strapped and unstrapped surf.
I had the SS t-rex and wasn't that fussed on it and subsequently sold it.

... seriously, do yourself a favour and try a Nugget. Really fun, easy to use and gets you out there doin' it in no time.

Great beginners board that you will not outgrow and has a bigger wind/wave range than the North PR department say. I had me some fun on one even in some eye opening Subawa stuff, totally felt like I belonged amongst the cool gang!

cheers,

Robbie

SS Celeritas is a fantastic board for what you want. But I would go for 2013 onwards. The thumbtail makes the board more versatile.

The 2012 Celeritas is an excellent board to learn on. It is easy to gybe and a lot of fun in the mushy WA surf.
