hey im on the lookout for a 16m kite to last those light westerley's and to kite in the caribbean. not sure which one to choose, at the moment looking at the Switchblade 2 and the Rhino 07' any suggestions!!
Hi Lozz, I just got an 07 Naish Torch 16mtr and it kicks ass. It all depends on your weight and board sellection. I'm 105kg on a grog free day and only have a 142 switch to play with. Can't wait to get a directional for wave riding on realy light days. Stick to the style of kite your used to, can't go wrong then. cheers Keep kiten and smilen.
i've got the 16 m 2007 sb2, and in steady 14 +knot winds it pulls like a truck, is stable, but turns are slow. harder to relaunch from in the surf when winds are light, or not pumped up rigid.
In the light gusty winds it is very frustrating- it will over fly the window in a gust, then fall backwith no power- I have been thinking seriously of a large foil (17 m flysurfer maybe) for the light wind duties, and keep the SB2 for 15-20 knots. the benefit of the flysurfer is that it tolerates light gusty winds much better, and has a lower wind range. i need to demo one on one of these crap winter days
The new T2 from slingshot in a 14m has heaps of power and turns nicely not superfast as kite is a big 14, very very stble even in the really light winds, daves from slinghy won the down wind race at port douglas on the 17m by nearly a kilometre in around 10- 12 knots and at mackay in around 6 to 10 knots was the first agian this time body dragging across the line with an 11m t2 last kite flying.
i just got a crossbow 16m and loving it..i weigh around 83kgs and have a 135 board and get going around 9knots and stay upwind.. ive had it in winds of 20 knots still comfortable.easy relauch by pulling in 1m of rear line. The xbow gets me out on days i would turn around and drive home.its good for trying new things as the kite is really steady and u know when the power is coming.. hope this will help ..
