message from a mate who tried my 10m vapor I on the weekend,...

I reckon the Vapours are full-on muscle kites - they're a bit like
Valiant chargers - absolutely bull**** for power (top and bottom end)
and acceleration - didn't get a chance to dial in the turning of
them, but power-wise they're awesome!

does that mean if I was thinking of a 10 I should actually go for an 8.5?

I don't think so. They are less grunty at the low end than the Flow or DNA. The reference to a muscle kite is an interesting one. I would think more along the lines of a Ferrari myself.

I would stick with a 10 if that is what you would normally fly for a given wind speed.

Yeah dont know about the muscle kite comment - having said that I havent flown the North Rebels or Vegas's that I believe it was compared too. I find the Vapors to be great kites that are very easy to fly, super quick to relaunch and a lot of fun on waves, to the point where I think they would also be great kites to learn on. There are so many damn good kites out there now and these are just one of them Im sure.

One of the beauties of the Vapor - especially the 10 is the apparent wind speed it generates - I hover around 95kgs and am able to ride it from 15 - 35kts - although way on the edge in 35 on the furtherest back line knot.

Damn good kites but I wouldnt call them grunty having come from flows, now theres a mack truck!!

Depends where you kite I guess.
I'm 72 kgs and ride a directional, the 10m is good for 15 - 30 kts in waves.

As for DNA / vapor comparison, the DNA is very much a park and ride kite with a good pull on the bar (like a truck), whereas the vapor pulls a lot more through the harness and definately steers more like a sports car.

i'm looking for something that can park and ride in the good surf and something that can pull me along in the mush surf, something that is easy relaunch in the white water and forgiving when I catch a rail on a wave? the vapour or bandit or rev kites sound like they do most of it as do most of the 2008 hybrid models. theres a lot of choice. will demo some to see what suits.

yep,
the DNA is certainly the "park and ride" kite in the airush lineup, also good in the surf as they sit back more in the window than the vapor

just wondering what the preference would be if you had a 3 to 4 foot beach break peak with side on wind (say like scarbourough to trigg on a good day) - DNA or Vapour? I thought maybe the vapour would be the upgraded model to use, seeing the power on it can still be turned down, maybe not as much as the dna but enough so you are not getting dragged past all the sections that you would like to smack the lip on?

I find it easier to get ot the parts of the wave I want to hit with the Vapor rather than the DNA or Flow - but I was learning on those other kites and became more proficient on the Vapor - most people on the forum say the DNA is the ticket... I must try it again!
