Looks great but you should have called this thread the New Ozone Quick Release.

Perhaps you should have called it the Ozone quick release.........

Did not mean to take the p1ss but the only diff I can see is the QR......please enlighten me. (couldnt read most of it so may have missed something).

I thought the bar ends were changing? Those bar ends are great, they put hole in boards and grab leashes trying to pass the bar!

Geeeez... Talk about anti-climax... After all this time I was honestly expecting something amazing.

I got the new bar with the new reo's (yet to fly due to **** winds) and like the look of the new quick release. I got a short safety leash with the bar, but i am unsure of the best place on my harness to attach it. somewhere on the front i'd guess. i have a dyna bar. Any ideas. couldn't find any info on the ozone website. only about 20 - 30cm long.

wheres the soft bar ends ??? Those ends ding boards

Does that mean it has a swivel or not?

Can it be retro fitted to the older (2012) contact bar and is it available?

If it don't have a swivel I won't be too keen

Center safety line. Chicken loop swivels with the red release piece, the black bit above that stays put. A very smooth & free feel to it. You can't help but admire the simplicity, solid but fuss free. The safety leash is amazingly short & simple, but may not suit everyone. It would need to be attached to your spreader.

I had a look and flew with the bar a few weeks ago in NZ. A small concern we had is that if don't pay close attention to the way you are re-assembling the quick-release back together after it's been released, it can easily be put back in an incorrect way that makes it look OK at first glance but under tension will come undone again. So yeah you just have to pay close attention to the way you re-rig the QR.

Yes it is definitely retrofittable to the megatron generations of ozone bars (since 2009 i believe).
It will be available as a separate purchase soon.
It swivels, and the swivel is turned by hand below the bar, as with current Ozone setup. Above bar swivels are just another way of adding weight, cost and clunkiness with a useless gimmick that clogs with sand.

I used new bar with my old 6m reo yesterday. The swivel was looser and worked better manually than on old bar. Never noticed any dramas with quick release reassembly, seemed simple and basic. It releases with very little pressure, and about 2cm of forward movement. I can't see any way of incorrectly putting it back together. Maybe the push away release was not seated back down properly. Will keep an eye on it though. Only negative for me is the chicken loop is slightly longer with same sized donkey dick. This effectively makes the donkey dick 1cm shorter. I have to be careful with sliding hook as they twist out easily. Kyter you can attatch the leash at front directly to your dynabar sliding harness hook.

No way, sorry. We have been testing the QR in our school, and the largest school in Egypt has too, there is NO issue in reassembling the chicken loop. Its as simple as this

Is it really a redesigned bar?? Not that I dont like it but it just looks identicle to the old one..nothing new except for the quick release which seemed to be a few years behind everyone. Was expecting a little more. What abiut soft bar ends etc ???

I understand it's inconceivable for you and most experienced kiters, but in reality only a few newbies will read the manual and/or watch this video. If you don't lift the pin to expose the hook you can easily miss it and wrongly connect it by by-passing the hook. It will happen to ignorant newbies just like I've seen many newbies connect their safety leash in suicide mode on the previous Ozone bars thinking they were on the safety line. At least with the new bar they can't do that mistake anymore which is great.

im with you cbulota on this, im on the old sysyem which imho is fine, ive seen the new system and looks great and works great , the little metal tab should of been a bit longer so when resetting the release sleeve you dont have to leave your finger there as the video shows, as for the video it shows how the system works but is a totally different thing when your out to sea with a 25 plus wind and swell throwing you around, i honestly havnt seen a bar and lines that is 100% from any brand

Your kidding right? How does it possibly add weight, cost and clunkiness? I've been nothing but wrapped with Slingy bars. As long as you untangle the centre lines prior to launch you can invert or loop the kites to your hearts content and the lines will stay tangle free.

Anyway I currently own a couple of Catalysts and the bar is pretty rubbish compared to the awesome kite. New chicken loop (IMHO) will certainly help improve the bar. Any idea on cost for the upgrade?

If the importer says so..... I always enjoy when a genius comes with a "NO" I am better than you, whatever you think is wrong! It reminds me dealing with some German manufacturer, always a one way conversation. Is kite power a German dude?

Nice to see that they have a push away now, but really that's the only difference. I'm going to stick with my old bars. It would have been nice to see soft bar ends this year

When you say there is a below the bar, hand-spun swivel, is it like the old Ozone one? Where you couldn't actually untwist the lines unless you were clipped in the centre ring?

Glad your slingy swivels are working - I've heard other stories of clogging as well as the swivel banging hands, heads and boards when lines are momentarily slack. Every additional moving part adds weight, cost and clunkiness (perhaps too loaded a term) and potential failure points - how could it be otherwise. The question is whether these are outweighed by increased functionality.

I believe the new chicken loop will be in the $70-$80 range but don't quote me on that.

Tastes will vary for sure but the Ozone bar lets me see exactly what's happening with settings and wear and get to anything that needs adjusting or changing instantly. Bars with hidden and more complex moving parts have been the source of many headaches on these pages as people struggle to replace parts or they find parts breaking without the possibility of advance visual inspection.

Anti climax that must be the understatement of the year, this is what we have waited 3 years for, told customers that this super dooper quick release is coming that will solve all their problems!!
Come on ozone your customers deserve better, if 3 years R&D produces this then surely it would have been cheaper to get Blades bar maufacturer and get them to do a quick 'Knock-Up Job'

Some where along that 3 year R&D cycle their main bar engineer Hugh Pinfold jumped over to cabrinha. I wonder how much that slowed them down on the bar development?

Whats the need for soft bar ends ? I don't get it.

There was nothing wrong with old QR so I rather wait for good product 3 years than have QR that almost work or will break after some usage. I have to give 100 points to Ozone not using end customers as test users.

Ive half hitched my leash at least three times around those plastic horns trying handle passes before i cut them off. I would have liked to see some soft ends like north, liquid force or cabrinha to stop the issue, Ozone floats don't do the job!

^ yep, have had to do 3 ding repairs on my surfboards over the years due to those ends.

I saw a proto photo 3 years ago and the bar looked really good - half the bar was the ozone red, the other half ozone blue. Grip looked nice comfy rubbery and of course soft bar ends (which weren't too bulky) and push away release.. Was pretty impressed by what I saw and thought i'd buy that when its available.. and 3 years later we still have the same bar as I had 4 years ago.

Nick, interested in how/where you cut off the plastic horns.. Do you have a pic?

Anyone else modified the bar ends? I noticed when rowdy was in safety bay he had either different bar ends (they were white) or was using a different bar with his C4's..

But this is the part where you are just plain wrong cbulota. If you don't "lift the pin to expose the hook" the red top hat still slides back and the chicken loop still resets. When you relaunch or launch the kite the load sets the chicken loop line.
You are making an assumption that is just not correct. We have been testing these chicken loops for several months, they reset very easily. We have been using them in our school - no issues at all - our instructors would not use them if there were problems.

The BWS bar with clamcleat trim( above bar) and braidtech dyneema lines, now thats a rig that didnt take 3 years to get sorted

Perhaps the team at Ozone have to realise that they just don't have the skill-set to get a new bar sorted. Maybe poaching someone from another manufacturer (North, Liquid force, BWS, Cabrinha etc) is the only way if they ever want to get a new bar to market?

Welcome to 2008 ozone. With all the delays on the bar, you think they were reinventing the wheel.
