Just an awesome winter day, starting at 13 to 15 steadily increasing to 17 to 19 and at times a little above. Not a huge swell but enough to see what drift capabilities are there.
Rode a total of 5 kites today, but 4 of them were newies.
Only be brief as none of them are my focus this year, but it may serve to give a little info to those who are. I will do it in order of riding them. All of them were on my cruiser Pro.
LF Envy 9m
Has a decent bottom end, was only 13 to 16. Power delivery is smooth and linear. No pulleys this year. Not a fan of bars with such a long depower, unless you are 9 foot tall why do you need all of this. Below bar depower, fine works okay. Ends are stupidly big with a real cut in each side which could be a freestylers nightmare with a leash wrap, stupid, they need to look at this in my humble opinion. Swivel good worked every time and I was looping the sht out of the kite.
Got some obvious pop for those wake stylers, gets real decent once the wind kicked in. Decent feel through rotations and loops. Drift really decent.
Matt from BWS was down there I got in his new BWS and he took it for a spin. Delayed steering in general with no steering depowered and seems to stall a little waiting to turn. Moons, matt, sam all on SBs said the same thing after riding it. My brother was less forginving in his comments so i will just leave it there. For a serious wave kite I don't know. For those that want to ride waves and extend themselves into some wake style (unhooked once just to see and it was very stable) a decent option. There a better.
BWS 8m
Real simple bar system with plastic sheathing, above clam cleat aka ozone so immediately I liked it.
Bloody fast, with excellent feedback all the way through the power delivery. Drift unreal, can't see how much better you could get it, man these wave kites have got good! Steers when depowered. Power delivery linear and smooth but little apparent wind build up, that being said who wants that in the waves. Yet it still will fly nicely through the window, you just gotta redirect it a little and go again. Jumping, forget it. This kite has one purpose...waves.
But they have built a fly and follow wave kite, an immense improvement on the older BWS (i may offend some but this is my review so get fcked....thankgod it is different) in terms of how it flies and quality of build all round. It just looks right hey. For serious wave riders you need to add this to your demo list now. Really impressed hey. Did I say it turned bloody fast...on/off type power.
Rally...2012 I think 9m
Been watching moons for a while now fly this kite, looks weird to me, got its own unique shape hey. So I thought stuff it lets have a go. Well this is such a good all round fun kite, that drifts, jumps and is bloody quick. Was throwing some back roll back loops as such and it just got around so fast I had to re-adjust. Slight hesitation on the turn but only slight and bang and yet really easy to control the power delivery. Got a bit of spunk this kite, will take you upwind and develop a bit of grunt/apparent wind...well I keep comparing to the edge so not really...but you know what I mean.
Direct connection (already liked it), (was the BWS direct can't remember damn), I just had a bloody good time on it. Really steady, forgiving yet powerful enough to crank it up. I have to say I was surprised, so there you go. Not sure they did a good job with the 2013, maybe they need to look back at their 2012 model. I could be wrong and I generally am.
Bandit B6
Plenty been said on this kite it is a popular one. Got some more C power than the others above. Man this kite has some real spunk hey. Fast enough, with some bang on grunt, but smooth delivery. Really cranks you around on the loops etc. develops more apparent wind than the others above and you can feel the 6 gen of work in this kite. Still I didn't notice anything crazily different to the B5, just more spunk and crank. Bloody good jumper, pull the bar in and it does this weird predator mouth type open and eat me thing but it works. I did have it fully powered though as I do. Yeh in the right hands this kite will take you big.
Drift...nah I'm not convinced this kite actually drifts aka a wave kite. But the feedback is so good, keep it moving and its a bucket of fun in the waves. For powered riding this kite would be really fun. Early days but comments from some other riders (one of them very experienced) confirmed this with me. But sht you can't have everything! Bloody nice wind. It still flutters on the loops even though the hype said it didn't or it was reduced. Also doesn't like to be depowered, loses its stability in the air, one thing I'm never a fan off. But this on/off also gives it such versatility.
Bar, well I have said it before, its the mother of all cluster Farqs of all stupid, arrogant, head you ass farqs..quick realise Farqin ancient and stupid and that damn old ass swivel, didn't work before, didn't work this time either. Anyhow enough of that, you know how I feel. I just feel such a good wing deserves a state of the art bar system that's all.
So there you have it, brief but a starting point maybe for some of you on your search.
Ps cranked up the zephyr on the laluz, while everyone else was on 9 to 10m...yeh baby, got one mother of all airs off a wave. Christ I love that wing!
Any spelling errors I just can't be bothered fixing...
