Hi all,
Love my Shinn Monk, but hate the straps on this board. Comfort level average, and they slip off far too much. I guess these are a personal thing and straps fit feet differently. And these things are difficult to demo.
Looking for something that gives a much better connected feel, and confidence to go for moves.

As this link demonstrates, shinn's are 155mm, but most other brands i've looked up are 6 inches (152mm) which is a real pain

I used to like my cab syncs alot, but they won't fit this board. LF also look like there 6inch. So what pads/straps fit this board? and what would you recommend?
Another thread talked about the Dakine Warlocks, they look like the pads have a few centimeters give each side so should work.

I'd be keen to know if north NTT straps would fit these boards.

I like the sound of the shinns but just looking at the straps I thought I wouldn't get along with em. Buying new straps for a board starts to get a bit spendy also....not too bad if they would sell the board only I suppose?

I know the new straps are meant to be much better. Cauncy suggested a certain strap not long ago but can't remember what he said. I agree though. I use the pads as they rock but the straps are average. As I said the 2013 are better. One of the biggest changes actually.

Mate you must have bung feet, Nah I swap mine now and then for the darkine warlock its a sweet combination for a real locked in feel, I adjust mine whilst I'm riding pull the tab to tighten pull the hoop to slacken, I usually put these on in big swell sessions and I don't want my board coming adrift a klm out, but use them a bit of caution as they lock in that good you'll risk injuries

I have a Monk and The Street. I also hated the Shinn straps and pads for the same reason. I have cab syncs on my Monk and Liquid Force 'Cradles' (boots) on my Street. Cab syncs fitted perfect on my monk so not sure what your problem may be. Mine are the old 2010 syncs however. The liquid force cradles I did have to file a little off the outside of each slot to be able to get the screws in and have the full range of movement around the slots and thus have them ducked out as I prefer.

6"=152.4mm so you could maybe save yourself some money by filing a 1.3mm recess on the outside of the two slots and do the same with a couple of washers to offset the bolt in the syncs? It would weaken the sync at that point so you would need to look at it to see if you thought it would still be strong enough before you decide to do it or not.

You would need to check what angle you like your feet at on another board so you only had to do it at one place to get the same angle on the Monk. You can do that by putting some masking tape on the other board and drawing the lines along the board to the mounting holes to get two parallel lines which you mark onto the syncs. Then you can do the same on the monk to get another pair of parallel lines and get the pads aligned at the same angle.

yo ive just got in from a 30knt session, after your post i thought id put the warlocks on , swapping them over is a piece of cake as if they were made for the board, as a locked in feel goes they are superb ,they grip a bit lower down the foot towards your toes but have a real snug fit, had a couple of big fast stacks and the board stayed welded to my feet, id say they allow a bit more heel movement , allowing you to roll your foot forward great for direction changes and riding toeside, also helped curling my toes up to get extra edge on the board , as i said in my last post you can easily adjust whilst riding, when i first got on my monk a few years back i wasnt a lover of the feel of the pad strap combo they felt weird and you seemed to be high up on the board, but after a few hours the pads and straps bedded in and im a big lover of them, when i pass the board around the first compliment thats made is the comfort of ride which is down to the pads and the flex of the board, i would say change straps but not the pads unless youre a flat water rider, im willing to post my straps for you to demo if your unsure and dont want to spend the money on a unknown entity, its a difficult one with straps and boards as everone has a different foot , id say the shinn pads cater for a wide foot, but from what you said youd like to feel i reckon the warlocks are the go,

Will take the board in to Kite Addiction they've got the old and new syncs so will see if they bolt straight on. Failing that will look into the warlocks as they sound like exactly what i'm after. Thanks for the offer cauncy but should be right great review,

Please tell me you won't be 'filing' anywhere on your shinn monk!

Any footpads with the standard 3 slotted holes on each side of the foot should work.
Unfortunately a lot of good footpads/straps are board specific ... infinite adjustment of that brand of board but won't fit on some other brands.

I had a pair of Litewave Sandals on another board and swapped them out ... perfect!

Feedback I get is awesome. Many comment on it even when not asked.
AND they are built on memory foam - both pad & strap - so they only get better the more you use them.
But there really isnt a problem. You can buy any of the Shinns minus the pads and straps & add your own so you dont end up out of pocket with pads & straps you dont want.
Ive never been asked but if you demo & dont like - or even buy then find they dont suit - we will cheerfully swap them out for a set of Dakine Warlocks or my other all time favourite the Nobile IFS pros.
The only pads I have found that dont marry up to the Shinn boards are the Norths. But there may be others??

I found them a little tricky to get right first time. The memory foam compresses over time as it moulds to your feet so you do need to adjust them.

Also, the velcro strap runs to 2 straps across your feet (think like a Y). So if you want the strap tighter across the front of your foot, you need to pull the strap downwards to tighten the front more than the back.

Super happy with mine now!

Using the Liquid Force Retrofit kit I was able to mount LF straps on my Shinn Gintronic using both outside holes.

I can't stand the Sneaker straps.

After riding with the LF pads attached via mis-matched holes and the LF retrofit kit for a while I feel that the bindings are mounted a small amount over towards the toe side edge which results in it being much harder to hold down a heel side edge.

It's warm enough to ride barefoot so I've gone back to my Sneaker pad/straps for now but I'm not sure what I'll do when I need to switch back to booties as the Sneaker pad/straps are god awful with booties.

Not sure if the will fit the OP situation..... But i have been using the Naish Apex for the last 6 months and they are excellent... If you like the comfort feel of the LF Luxury and the more locked feel of the syncs ( I have used LF Pads with sync straps for the past few years ) the Apex is a great choice..... Personally dont rate the Nobile IFS and pulled them off my NHP in favour of the Apex.

The North Entity straps fit also.

You have good adjustment available to the toeside/heel side edges and duck angles but you can't adjust stance width as they mount on the two outermost holes giving you a stance that falls between the two stock options which suits me nicely.

The sneaker X's don't quite fit me either.

Speed Brother never red so much crap the Shinn straps/pads are red hot even for you legends that ride powered up and edge like i dont know what.

Never had a problem with shinn footstraps,super nice and comfy!

Id say with the shinn pads is they arnt automatically a super snug fit, the memory foam requires a good few sessions to mold to your foot, also they feel a bit strange as you wouldnt of exsperienced anything like them, so coming from a firm set to the shinns would-be like kicking off your work boots and chucking on your nannas slippers, as for not being up to the job for riding hard, bollocks.

For the record I am not saying they are bad. However some of us, who love our Shinn boards, prefer a different strap/pad combination. I also think all brands can improve their gear in some way!

Got some Naish Apex pads & straps last week for a client here.
They look the goods. Just waiting on a review before stocking them but looking like a certainty atm.

Re the Shinns. Some customers - seems those who have very wide fore-foot - did experience chaffing from the forward lower outside section of the strap on the Sneakers ie prior to the Monk Forever.
The new Sneaker X overcomes that problem by having the strap fully padded to well below the pad.
But the jury is still out on which is best. I had one customer upgrading to a new board with the Sneaker X come back in to exchange Sneaker X for the previous Sneaker model.
Most feedback (havent had a lot yet) has been that the Xpads arent quite as cosy (there is less memory foam) but that the Xstraps are softer & offer a tighter fit.
