All,

I am thinking about getting a second harness, a seat one. My other one is a waist harness.
My questions are as follows:

1- my gear is currently North, is it beneficial to stick to getting North harness or
will any brand do?

2- Any gotchas I should be aware when choosing what harness to wear? Ie. will weather conditions have an impact wether I put on waist or seat harness?

I am trying to avoid sore ribs and know that as I progress this should be a lesser issue. In the meantime if I get a second harness I ve got two of everything = backup.

Any recommendations and advice accepted with great thanks!

Cheers,
Eric

Maybe post this Q? on the Kitesurfing-General section.

Anyhoo, make sure the leg straps have good cushy padding. Some don't and they are really uncomfortable.

As for brand - try all the ones on you can and get the best fit. Some have a high back, which i personally don't like.

I reckon harnesses that come with a spreader bar pad are the go also.

Good luck

Try wearing your waist harness a *little* less tight. That way it won't crush your ribs when it rides up and it will slide straight back down when you bring the kite down.

The Dakine Fusion is an excellent seat harness.

Liquid Force has 2 types of seat harnesses - boardshorts type 'Surf shorts' and the traditional seat design the 'Cruzer'. Both are very well supported and comfy as. Spreader bar comes standard with all LF harnesses. See pics at liquidforcekites.com Contact your local LF distributor to give them a go.

hi eric. Seat harness's are great in high winds and will enable you to ride for longer because of the extra support, we use then for speed kiting where you need the support, wedgie's are a pain in the arse when you are pulling big airs tho, i use a mystic warrior harness which has been excellent but can also come undone doing some moves like backroll's only happens to me rarely tho, cant beat the freedom of a waist harness tho, its good to have both. High winds use seat, freestyle use waist.

cheers guys.

I KNEW I d learn something by asking :-)

I m going to get one just cause they have different qualities that fit different conditions. I ll make sure to wear my waist one a bit loose too.

Cheers!
Eric

perhaps boyo,

A) your a misogynist, or rather,

B) you're a misogynist?

as it happens girls seem to wear waist harnesses just as much as boys, and women as much as men. i know some awesome riders who choose seat harnesses. are you talking about pro wakestylers, speed-kiters, or what? horses for courses huh?

ahh, surfingboye, homophobic too old chap? rather than argue the professionalism of the top speed-kiters, i think i'll just leave you to your prejudices, harnessed or otherwise, and go do something constructive.

sorry to stray off topic eric, i just wanted to counter the vitriol against both seat harnesses and large sections of humanity. (incidentally i use a waist harness.)
