just after some feed back looking at getting a ss rally 2011 and are wondering if ill get away with a 12m id be 98 kgs on a underground 132 looking at about 15 to 20ish knots
havent bought a kite for a while and been riding me gk sonic 14 since around 2005 and need a good 17 knots to get goin on that just curious if these newer kites have more grunt and if you guys reckon its an option any feed back will be much appreciated

12m Should be the right size for your details. Wind range probably wider both ends than what you are asking for.

I've demoed a lot of kites this year and ended up buying something else due to shortage of money but without a doubt Rally was the best kite I've tried this year and the bottom end of this kite is unbelievable.

Water relaunch is effortless and wind range is impressive
Demo before you buy as I live in WA and the wind condition is very different to Vic but I was 88kg on a 10m in 15 knots, 135cm board going upwind

12m would be the size. At your weight the 132 board is more the issue, & a bigger kite won't fully compensate for a small board. I'd be thinking of at some stage getting another, bigger board. Maybe an old surfboard, to go with the 132.

couldn't agree more. At your weight a 132 should be used as a high wind board. You should get something around the 136-140 x 42 as your allround board. And even look at a specialist light wind board or surfboard for sub 16-17 knot winds.

within the last two weeks I've purchased two new SS Rally's...8m & 12m...

I have rediscovered my love of kiting in two short weeks. I've had nothing but great times on both kites - was on the 8m y'day morning in 22 -27 knots & had a great time. Wind dropped back a bit to about 16/17 knots & got out the 12m...unbelievable performance.

Both kites boost really well & are remarkable up wind machines. I've been on PL's for 'some' years now and am ecstatic with the performance from these kites.

I'm not as big as you but ride a 132 Cardboard and have to say the Rally has brought back the smile & stoke like I haven't had for some time.... you won't be disappointed.

My weight is 102kg on Naish Thorn 132cm twin tip. I have test in light winds 14-16knots both the Rally 12M and Ozone C4 12M , C4 has the better turning speed plus bottom end “low wind”. I find that the Rally is a small kite for its size and DOES NOT HAVE good bottom end. For my weight I have problem with the wing tips on the Rally under load seem to semi collapse (when I load for a jump).
I found that the C4 really surprised me with its bottom end “low wind” for C shape kite, not far off the bottom end of the switchblade 12M.

I have been riding a 12m Rally since the first one landed on the shop floor last winter and at 84kg on a 132 Xenon tt i can go out in wind when guys are still on there Fly Surfers. I would say 13 to 14 knots is the lowest wind i have had it in. Its not as fun as riding it in 20 but you can still do it. about 25 to 27 is the most i have been out at the top end but got a bit uncomfortable for obvious reasons. The 12m turns quick for its size and this i think helps in the lighter winds. It handles gusts really well to as i had to try it in our gusty westerly conditions last winter and rode at least one day a week all winter handling wind 15 gusting over 20. The 8m is also Awesome in higher winds and gives just as good air time as the 12. I cant recommend this kite enough. Buy one and enjoy.

Sounds like the kite im looking for and have an old ss drake board i first learnt on to fall back on in the lighter conditions

Hmmm, not yet ridden one but hoping to soon. What's the deal with the reports of wingtip collapse. There was the "REAL" review and now this. Is it just a matter of under-inflation? Does it happen to some batches not others?

Not trying to stir things up, just a bit wary as there were issues with some batches of the octanes and, among the general praise, there are a few kiters who've had stability issues.

Hi djdojo The wing tips dont collapse as such but they do flap quite rapidly if you under inflate the kite. I have been using one since they came out and there is a noticeable difference if you dont get them solid. Small price to pay really cause they are nice to fly otherwise. Do you have a link on the tips collapsing?

Thanks for the link. Reviews seem good. Dont think there's a batch issue with these kites. i think 102kg on a 12m kite and a 132 tt in 14 to 16 knots is.

Glenhignett you might want to try the 14 if thats the average wind you will be flying in just to give you that little bit more power.
