Hey

I could do with some advise regarding sizing with the Rebel 08.

I'm currently on 7, 10 and 12 north vegas 06 and am looking to replace all the kites with 6(or 7), 9 and 12 rebel 08.

I only ride waves and occasionally freestyle with my girlfriend.

After looking at the North website and the suggested windranges, is there any point in getting a 12? A low-end of 10 knots for a 12 seems a bit far-fetched plus if there is that little wind, what are the chances of relaunching the puppy anyway? The 10 has a suggested low end of 12 knots which on a surfboard and at 68kg, I'm assuimng would be lower anyway.

So my questions are:

Do I go the whole way and replace the quiver knowing full-well that a 7 and 10 would most likely cover the same windrange I have now or do I save my money and get the 7 and 10? Is there enough of a an overlap between a 7 and 12?

I look forward to a response from kitepower.

Should be demoing them next week when back in Perth.

Hey Dan

I have ridden the 6m proto and it was a sweet kite probably the best small kite i have used. If you are only going to ride waves then the ten should be enough for the lighter wind days. What about a 6m 9m 12m combo i know they all over lap in wind rangers a bit but when wave ridding you don't want to be overpowered anyway. Rode the 6m 7m and 9m at WA,s secret spot and they didn't miss a beat.

Hope this helps a bit but probably made it worse.

Apparently the revolver is like the rebel might be worth a look.

Yeah I prefer to be underpowered in the waves but obviously not when doing freestyle. Summer can be really **** for waves so I'll have to do some free...plus the girlfriend is only just getting up and going.
I can't see her needing anything bigger than a 10 though.

But it's always good to have a big kite in the quiver...

DAMN IT!

I heard that Cabrinha designer borrowed some rebel kites and copied them.

I am a fat sod 91kg, more when on holiday.
My (08) 12 gets me up in 13kn and is fun over 15 on my 138 Twinnie.

Your "i don't drink Guinness or eat pies" frame would be fine with the 10 and 7. however if you have the cash get the lot ie 7, 9, 12.

Alternatively wait for the revolver, which is just a bridled Rebel, or so i have heard.

I've heard you all hang about near or in the male toilets at Leightons, because you are Rebel men.

just had my first powered up session with the 12m Rebel 08 (with the 07 bar).
I'm something around 60 kilos. It blew up to 30 knots today and I was still on my 12m. Hanging on, but still going. I opened my QR at 35.
No way you'd get overpowered with a 12m on a surfboard before 18-20 knots... If.
So a 12m/9m combo should do just fine.
My 12m gets me planing at 10-12 knots, a 9m would reasonably cover 25 knots + (but would get you going on a surfboard in much lighter winds). I believe most of us stop kiting a 40 knots + so you should have your wind range covered just fine...
The combo should also allow you to have your different styles covered (between wave riding and freestyle), as the 12m rocks on strong wind (and you will love having it then).
Holy smoke this baby jumps big...
And still can't believe the wind range of my 12m...
I'm so in love with this kite.

Em,

My most used kite is my 7m...anything above 15 and in the waves I'm in heaven. If these kites have such a good bottom end, I can't see any point in having a 12. My current 12 has got me out for heaps of light wind sessions though so in that regard I don't want to negate it.

I personally can't see the point in trying to hold down a massive kite in strong winds.

Plus I'm in WA Winds are a bit stronger here!

I just ordered my 12m Rebel, I am told the 08 bar comes in 2 weeks. Is the general consensus that the '08 is much better than the '07? I have been flying fuels for the last 4 years, and I only had a 5 or so sessions on last years Rebels.

Sorry if old news but I have ridden the 2008 10m Rebel almost exclusively from 12 - 35 knots. it is maxed at 34 - 35 knots and for 30+ a 7m is the choice, however the low end.

As a 68kg rider I can stay up wind on surfboard in 12 knots, and twin tip on 14 knots

Essentially most of the crew are on 12m Rebels and I can state easily that the 08 10m has the power 0f a 12m 07. Also they are not out longer or earlier than me on the 10m.

If I had regular 10 -15 knots I would go 14m Rebel 08 (or 12m)
