Hi,

i just received my 12 and 9M 2014 Torch.....and i feel first that there is too much gap between the 12m and the 9M and furthermore the 9M is not a good freestyle unhooked kite (not at all like the 12M too fast no grunt)....

What are the freestyle-wakestyle gold sizes for this kite ?

Got a mate who rides 9 & 12 looks fine to me unhooked and covers the gap fine.

got a 12, 10 and 8

i heard the 10m was suppose to be the sweetest kite in the line up so i opted for the 10 instead of the 9. No issues there. Just wish they were a little bit slower.

The 12m top end would be close to 25 knots at 75kg and the 9's bottom end would be around the early 20's

Hi Chris313 are you also called Mike? kiteforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=2384773

Yeah the speed of the 9 can take a bit of getting used to, I've got a 9 and 12 too.
If there is a steady wind and not too much rip I can get going in 18 kts on the 9 and this would have to be my favourite kite and conditions to learn new stuff with. It's ridicules how much pop and slack you can get with the 9 in these conditions. The harder you pop the more slack you will get and the less the kite will move. If you can also grab the bar in the middle after a pass, the kite will then just sit there happy as. If you grab the end, as I often do, just let it continue to loop as you land and sail downwind. BTW I find the 12 will do this also.
I have both pig tails on the fwd position and the bar on the shortest setting.
As Big eeezeee said the 12 is good till about 25 kts, but I find its easier on the 9 above 20 and this is usually about when I change kites.

Not too much overlap between the 10 & 12? What is the upper end of the 10 for you ?

noticed much difference with the bar on the shortest setting? I'm just running the middle knot (stock) and haven't felt the need to change anything.

No problems with overlap. Was debating 12,9 & 7 but i hate smaller kites so went with the 12,10 and 8. Would still make the same choice if i was buying new torch's. The upper limit of the 10 would probably be just under 30 knots somewhere. Although it's not much more than the 12 it allows me to still unhook in close to 25 knots where i wouldn't be able to do that on the 12.

Does anyone know how to tune the shift bar? I had a look at a brand new spare bar and lines and when the trim is fully powered the bar sits half way up the depower line. When the trim is fully depowered the bar sits perfectly against the chicken loop. It's pretty much the reverse of any standard bar i've tuned before. Strange??

Sorry mate, my bad, I meant shortest settings on the bar ends, the plastic bits you can turn round, making the bar effectively a smaller bar.

yeah i think thats marketing crap because the point where the line runs through the bar ends is the exact same no matter what position you put it in
