Looking at getting some new kites in a couple of weeks for the surf. Has any one compared religion to Ozone reo?
Would like some info from someone who's tried them both.

have only tried the reo so would love to hear any feedback from rrd flyers, or you could let us have a demo please john

If it's the same religion as last season I had a 9 and 10 for several weeks to demo last season and demo a 7 a couple times up north last season as well. I own a 10, 8 and 6 reo , I think the reo are more refined , better drifting style of kite in my view.

Was a review done by poor relative on the religion last year which is pretty accurate so search for that, I found the 7 religion great , but I think it has the same power as my 6 reo , the 9 religion felt a different beast to the 7 , no continuity through the sizes in flight characteristics compared to the reo's , I would find a 8 reo fly same as the 6 reo , the 10 feels sameish to the 8 so when I jump up or down a size it takes stuff all to redial in the kites .

I think water relaunch was same. Reo feel more c in the turns where the religion had a more bow style of turn , not a great deal of power generated in the religion. Neither jump great in the 10 meter sizes but the 6 reo jumps great in it's top end range of 25 knots with gust to 30 knots as we have had past few days , i cant recall the 7 meter religions jumping, being smaller and high winds prob the same as a reo.

i ride strapped and kite when its least head high waves even if it looks only the occasional set that size , getting airs smacking the lip is almost too easy with a 6 and 8 reo, but it comes down to conditions that you ride in.

After several weeks of using 9 and 10 religion last year I went for a 9 Vegas , the main setback of the religion was it's flight in gusty cross offshore winds , it's power would be too on off and at times I would be a sitting duck on the inside of the larger sets, i put this down to not being able to generate power in the turns like a c kite.

I was looking at the larger sizes for a kite in the religion , in the smaller kite size of a 6 or 7 it's a choice on gear setup , but if going larger I'd be biased towards an 8 or 10 reo for straight down line wave ridding.

you need to demo for you local conditions, so try Darren at aksonline for a reo demo and try the religion demo from SOS in freo both shops are good to deal with in my experience , neither are pushy but both are accommodative and helpful,

if there is a new model out of the religion they might have worked on some of the aspects i thought the kites lacked.

Yeah the ozone reos a sick kite in the right conditions but for real radical stuff I'd go the rrd! And dont forgot those protective boardies over the wetties!!!!!

I've also demo'd the Reo 6m in gusty ****ty winds and the 8m in near perfect conditions the other day.

They are both similar kites and they are both excellent if you're into waves. however i lean a bit towards the Reo as its not quite as fast as the religion and feedback from the kite is more direct.

Thanks for the info guys I will try and demo the religion 2012 when it gets released and the reo as well. If anyone trys the religion soon let us know.

I've not tried the Reo, but I have a 5m, 7m and 9m Religion (5'10" north WAM).

For surf / down winders the smaller Religions are awesome. Super Fast (I can understand why some people don't like them for this, but once you get used to it it's hard to go back) and drift really well. I think you'd be hard pressed to find a better kite for the strong sea breezes.

But, they are pretty rubbish up wind and only have power when you fly them. As such, I'd not get the larger sizes and probably wouldn't recommend if you are only interested in in/outs and jumping.

But, they are sooooo much fun when you're lit and the waves are up! Definitely give one a go.

I have a 10 religion and its an upwind monster.... I alway fly it on the onshore setting....(its always onshore here)..... Super fast turning, and if you need more power, the smallest movement of the bar and instant power....I'd have a whole quiver of them if I could find some used....

I flew a friends 10 reo and thought it was a nice kite... Not nearly as quick , so generating power in its low end took a lot more effort....

Build quality there is no equal to the religion.... Dacron reinforcements all over the canopy... I dont think you could rip it if you drug it thru oysters....

Can't comment on jumping, as I try to keep my feet on the board....

I'm confused - Bronzie says it's rubbish up wind. BorntoKite says it's a monster - is that a good monster or a bad monster, cookie monster or kite monster that has to be wrestled up wind?

A good upwind monster... Bar pressure is light....

Yep, you can get up wind- and well if you fly it well. The on shore setting helps a lot too (but I think the kite flies better in the side shore setting). Also helps to be Powered up. (my comments were for smaller sizes than borntokite). In 20-25 I have no probs staying up wind on the 7, but in 15-20 I struggle. (I'm 85kg on a 5'10").

The kite sits quite low in the window. I think this is the reason it drifts so well and remains responsive even with slack lines. And because it sits low, it is not as good up wind as other kites I have flown. But they haven't been as good in the waves.

If you want to surf, get a religion. If you want to jump and do tricks, get something else. But either way, try one because they are so much fun.

Yeah definitely looking just for a wave kite that's drifts with you when racing down the line. So you can still turn and your lines arnt all slack.
