Anyone who has noticed me on this site will know that I am a huge north fan. I have a 14m 7 rebel and a 10m 07 rhino. This review is not biased nd I have no comercial interest in this equipment.
I have been interested in trying Ozone ever since I watched a video featuring Chasta , somwhere in the pacific. His style and smoothness ad the stability in the kite really caught my imagination.

Saturday in very light 12 to 15 knot winds, I got my chance to try the Ozone edge. 13m Orange white and black.

Out of the bag it looked good. The bag is very clever, includes a kitestrap, sand bag, comfortable back pack style with a well designed place to carry the board also. The build quality is obvious also

This is a 7 strut high aspect kite with no 1 pump system. I personally like this and I know most people would find it a pain.
Very narrow struts means it quick to pump up anyway.

The bar look busy to start with but once I got it sorted it is a pretty good. The lines are colour coded and numbered no mistake in rigging the gear.

It has extra lines that go from the TE tips to the 5th line that stop the kite from flattening out therefore aiding the relaunch these can be removed. I left them on. They pesented no problems.

When I launched the kite I thought I had screwed up when rigging somehow, as there seemed to be no bar pressue at all. I was a bit worried that something bad was about to happen but the kite just sat there at Zenith. Then a small gust added some pressure to the front line and the chicken loop let go. The kite shot up until the safety line attached to the depower line took hold and it just sat there again. I reached up grabbed the chicken loop put hooked back in no problemo. I think the chicken loop could be better. The north system is very good. I have had this happen on my rebel and ended up with the kite on the roof of a neighbouring house, and a few grass burns to boot.

Into the water on my 145 nobile and again the kite felt very strange with such minimal bar pressure (14m rebel owners will understand what I mean) Once up and riding wow! This kite is stable and has heaps of power. It is also very fast. The line tension changed with the apparant wind speed. It was slow to turn in the very light wind but once I got some board speed up it improved, provided I was aggressive with the bar. Then the wind picked up a little more and this changed the feel of the kite significantly, it felt to have much more power and turned nicely.
I didn't jump the kite, it does not feel like my north equipment so I am being cautious, but legend has it hat this thing boosts huge and hang time is unsurpassed and there is videos evidence that back this up.(I espeacially like the 100m tow up they do on this thing) I spent the time just getting used to the very differet feel of this kite compared to my North kites, and just enjoying the light bar pressure. I felt like I could ride this kite all day.
Upwind when coupled with the nobile board was quite amazing. I think it is even better than my 10m rhino,(which is also amazing).

I have a lot more finding out to do with this kite but i am still smiling from Saturday. It was such a pleasure to ride. Best of all it now belongs to me. i can't wait to get out on it again.

I have read in this forum before somewhere that this kite is seriously underpimped. This is true.

I'd like to hear how it performs with a little more wind and when you really send it. I'm riding the Instinct Sports and you describe the bar pressure thing perfectly, it's dynamic how it pressures up as the speed increases.
I find to boost the sport just send it from 11 at speed, trying to dig from lower in the window doesn't always help. Might be the same with the Edge.
Let us know what happens

Will do kitedevil but by the look of the forecast it will be some time before I get out on my new gear again. Thanks for the boosting tip. I will post a further review once I get it out in decent weather.
I don't know about you but with all the new gear about and all the hype about helix etc. it feels good to know that when it all comes down to it, Ozone is really hard to beat, it is just shear pleasure to ride one of these. There is no need to discuss the pro's and con's of this gear it is just really good.

hey kite devil
Had a great session today in around 20 knots, really had a good oppurtunity to try boosting this kite ..... WOW! i found you need to be agressive with the bar to get the best result but the jumps were the highest I have ever been and the hang time was awesome. I still have some difficulty with the landings but because the hang time was so long I had time to look at the kite and get it in the right position and by the end of the session i was landing quite softly. The best was when i sent the kite to far back and i thought oh ****, but then remebered the ozone video and sent the kite into a loop. came dow soft as. Every thing they say about this kite is true.
I am really looking foward to some stronger wind now. This 13m kite is draging my 100kilo arse around like I was a light weight.

Sounds good indeed. Can't wait to try an Edge. I'm still amazed at the stability of these kites when they are way outside their wind range. Well the sport anyway, 13m had it out in gusts topping 30knots, overpowered but amazingly stable and still boosting, 11 to 12 at walking pace holding an edge and BOOM!

macca...try the sport as well, espeacially if you like to ride unhooked and like to do wake style stuff. I saw an article in the kite boarding magzine quoting the designer of these kites David Pilkington (Ph.d in Aerodynamics)he says the edge "is a kite to go fast ,go high... not complicated, twisty upside-down,under-over,backward,one-hand, three- hand,hold-bar-in-one-toe tricks."
Where as the design objective of the sport was to improve on the 06 instinct with easier relaunch, keep the energy through the turn, five struts and one pump.
He also states that the edge is as close to paragliding on a kite he has ever come. The hang time is very good. My skill level is not that great but I asked a friend of mine who is a very good jumper to have a go on my new edge and give me some pointers last week. He didn't jump it really high, maybe 4 or 5 meters but he seemed to stay up there for ages. So I can confirm that in the right hands this kite can really give you high long floaty jumps.
