Time to buy a small kite for windy days in Perth and would like any suggestions between 2011 model Ozone Cat 6m and North Rebel 5m. I ride a twin tip in small surf and would appreciate any info from people who have ridden these kites.

i went for a 6 reo. i predominantly use a twin tip. the little 6m has crazy depower at the bar and works real well in storm conditions. i've had mine out in stupid gusty winds 25-45 i was amaised how easy it was to control in those manic winds.

graf just took my new catalyst out in some very gusty winds 38knts,i was very happy how the kite behaved , ive tried the rebels in the larger sizes and although a great kite i wouldnt swap one for my ozone edges , give them both a good trial then decide,i think aks have both on demo

I recently purchased a Reo 6 and it got a work out when we had some wind, around Christmas and early in the new year. What really sold me on the benefits, was a pumping 25/30 + NE day. A bunch of us (nth Illawarra guys) did a downwinder and after work I joined in. Simmo reckons he was just hanging on. He had an Reo 8 but the 6 was perfect. I made a similar comment in another thread so i'll leave it at that. I used the Catalyst heaps prior to the Reo and now they (Cats) are part of my teaching equipment. The REO is markedly direct, and gruntier kite. Sorry, I have not flown a North Rebel but they look a real nice kite.

Do you have either in a larger size currently?

The reason I ask is that would (or should) have a big influence on your decision due to interchangeability of bars as an example, along with other things like self landing etc.

The reason I say this is if the bar goes on one kite, its good to know you have a spare bar that can be used. The other thing to consider is whether you have an opportunity to expand range based on this interchangeability. I.e. if you have a bar with 25m lines, get a bar with 20m lines and you have a 1m smaller kite if you need it, depending on which bar you take.

My first proper fly of this kite

I really really liked this kite. If i could fly this kite all the time i'd be super happy.
The kite is light on the bar not twitchy at all and super stable the power is very controllable and it drifts beautifully.

For such a small kite it is insanely stable and not overly quick through the turns so that its uncontrollable - feels just right.

My only negative was that when you hit a holein the wind you feel it 100% and everything stops as compared to my 7 which rode out the gusts and holes with fluidity.

Pity they dont make a 7m. I find my 6m cat just a little to small for normal conditions. perfect for downwinders and further north WA where its more consistently 30+

Winter is even worse, really struggled on the 6m when the wind range can be +/- 10kts. 5m would even be more frustrating as you would feel every hole in the wind.

[Sounds like all the rebel sizes really, no reason why it would be different ]

Do you know xhibit Eppo???

You should get a north version going as it would make prime time viewing.
