Since I started kiting I've been using an older Mako 140 as my only twintip.
It seems great and wave rides well but am i missing something. I notice these boards are not on podiums etc.

Vs nomad wave. Like comparing morsecode to satellite digital global communication

But which is mores code and which is satellite

The Nomad is more advanced.

... podiums for what exactly? Ive never heard of a competition for people who are too **** to use a twintip or a surfboard

Advanced in what way? Different board really. The old skinny makos where quite fun to ride for oldschool. Them 140 / 150 I never really cared for. They lack bite.

Was referring to the construction of build. Everyone has a personal preference. Both are great boards that tackle specific types of riding.

Have you even googled Nomad wave Boards to have a look at the details,11mm concave ,flex tips full carbon Light as to mention a few.
I had Makos ,ok down the line,
Makos are rigid no flex.
Heavy,only similarity is the plan shape.

Mako. Too heavy, no flex, concave too great. relic of the past. Move on. Had 4 of the buggers over time these the three variables that eventually annoyed me.

Nomad wave , very light, has the right flex and realistic concave.

Move on. Or don't ... easy.

Im curious if any of you guys that have had mako;s have tried them in mutant mode, the board changes heaps from twintip to mutant mode. I run my 150 in mutant mode with standard 55cm fins and a 80cm fin in the middle of the thrusters. The mako is great for down the line waves. It is a heavy board though, would be nice if Ocean Rodeo made a carbon one . I must try the Nomad one day , it sounds like a really nice board.

I tried them in every possible configuration and mainly in mutant mode. It's not a bad board don't get me wrong had some epic downwinders in Exmouth on them. But the factors I didn't like are sorted on that nomad. These factors eventually caused some serious ankle issues on my behalf. Excruciating pain through the ankle and calf region.

Also if you pushed the rail to hard on a wave that extreme concave would mean it would stick then all of a sudden break out on you.

again this has been only my experience so it isn't the absolute truth.

Sure that's the obvious reason but I think the over exaggerated concave also had something to do with it as well. As I said the rail would stick, requiring a lot of pressure to turn but then it would then all of a sudden break out. Don't get me wrong though if used conservatively for soft free flowing carving the board was a ripper. I'm not dishing the board just think these qualities I mentioned create a lot of limitations to it.

Leigh - curious in more detail what the incident and damage was to your Nomad? Carbon board with apparently amazing construction, intended to be used in waves, gets broken in waves ... ?

And for others, is the Tronic still the poor man's Nomad, or are there other contenders?

I was using my lightwind LT built for flat water in solid 1.5-2.0m thumping on the outside bank.Waves were close together.
Thought I had enough time to scratch over it but it sucked real quick as I was running up the face and the lip pitched into the under the nose.
My weight and speed did the rest.
My fault really but I explained the incident to Simon at Nomad,to there credit came up with a new board of my choice.
Had it delivered when on Holidays in Piles Spain.

So let me get this right Leigh. You broke this Nomad because it was not meant to be riden in "surf "as it's a flat water board. You had this Nomad surf made custom as your flat water board only! Correct so far? However you continually rank this board and brand of boards over all of the Mako TT's as a surf carving ripper. Yesmate I had the lightwind flat water board custom made for that purpose for just cruisingin lightwind.Not meant for surf.Iwas keen to try it but just picked the wrong day and my bad judgement.
The photo of replacement board a CCS Wave in my previous post is totally different board and basically bullet proof and out performs anything I have had.
Liked the makos but enjoy riding the nomad waves more.

Ok I would just like to clear up any misunderstandings in regards to my nomad broken board.

It was categorically not a Nomad Wave TT.

It was a Rectangular lightweight 1.8kg Nomad lightwind 8-14kts
TTip.
150 x 44cm

Was built for flat water not big waves.
I unfortunately used it in big close together waves .
Which it was not designed for.

So as mentioned above it was not a Nomad wave board.

I also have two Nomad Wave TTS and they are the most outstanding Wave Twin Tips I have ever used.

Unfortunately a few people have taken my post the wrong way.

Hopefully I have made myself clearer this time.

I also have the wave TT and love it. To be honest it is not my go-to board and I should really use it more. I love it when I am on and need to drag it out.

I have used it in a variety of conditions and wave sizes. I don't believe this board can be considered a SB substitute as it doesn't have the volume or the fin surface area to make it that way. When on a decent wave and riding toeside down a wave face I cannot point as high when riding right than I can on the SB.

That said, the board was never bought to be a SB replacement, it was there to complement the kite sessions and that it does. I love throwing it around on a wave as this board really turns hard given its rounded rails. It is playful and behaves beautifully in moderate sized choppy waves, though I have used it in shoulder/head high waves just because and it also adds a great dimension to your kiting experience.

I also owned a Mako King back in the days and sold it after about a year. The board was fine, but I didn't like massive concave for the same reasons that Eppo stated above. Plenty of folks I have met since have them and love them for what they are, but they are no comparison to the Nomad, but then again I reckon these two boards have different functions. The mutant style of the Mako makes it very much a different board.

Ozone Code V2 just released. Code V1 is great fun is small surf, and they have worked hard to improve it.

Just sold my Mako 1.40 it was/is a great board but not for me. When ridden with moderate power and not edged too hard they deliver a smooth ride. In waves which is all we have locally, it loses grip suddenly when you do even moderately tight turns, especially on fast carving bottom turns, which leads to sudden face plant to splat. Really solid build and a bit heavy, they seem to last forever. I've ridden a 1.50 in mutant and TT, again, just not for me, at that length I'd much prefer to be on my evo style Blacksheep custom 5'2" (1.57). Several locals are hooked on this board (they all prefer TT mode) and a few of them also have Cab Tronics.
I've ridden my V1 Code in big surf here just staying the gutter and occasional runs out the back and charge back in on a bomb and I rate it similar to the Tronic.

The mako 150 is the sweet spot size...
Very efficient ride.
Awesome for shallows freestyle and wave dutys.

It is a board that makes up one more level of stoke in a seasoned kiters board quiver.

Interesting tail shape on the ozone code v2.Looks like a slight concave in the tail.Like you I used the 140_150cm Makos tried also in mutant.
Lots of variation on makos for foot placement and fin configuration.Being a 100 kgs I enjoyed the 165Mako as a Mutant the most.Still terrific carving boards.
After nearly two years on Nomads wave TTips there's a big improvement in performance.
I take my Duotone Whip or wam and my nomad team or ccs wave depending on wave size or wind strength to the beach.Throw in a couple of Nexus done deal.
