a dude from here compares the kite against a vegas06. Interesting read.
If you go to kiteforum.com there is about 10 threads going that are discussing this kite....which i find amusing that at the same time there are basically no threads concerning the Boxer SLE or the CB2
Also theres alot of talk concerning the bar. Apparently the bar is a month behind in development from the kite. Therefore if you buy now you will get the 06 bar, and if you buy later you will get the 07 bar.
Just picked up my 12 am as happy as a pig in ****. I love my local kite dealer!! The kite looks the goods cant wait to fly Now prepare for a serious lull in wind.....i've got new gear.
Hi, Just flew the 9m, 10m and 12m today. Only about 13knts max. Rode the 12m, Stayed upwind very easy. Super easy to fly with light bar pressure. Bar and everything was perfect straight out of the bag, no adjustments where needed. Jumped on the 9m, super fast on wide settings and smashed upwind on the 9m aswell on the medium jamie. Obvisiouly i didn't get a chance to test out the depower capabilities but with 30knts forcast for the weekend here i'm sure i will test it fully. Anyone who wants to have a go on the rebals on the goldie, just get a hold of me. As i will have all the kites pumped up every day it's windy.
Paul did you try jumping the Rebel. Is it as easy as it says? Do you have to pump the struts up quite hard? The pics of the Rebel look like the struts are small and need to be pumped up quite hard.
So did u compare the Rebel to any other kites before buying it ie F-One tribal? or other flat kites? Did you try any other kites? what made you choose the Rebel? and what do you like most about it? anything u dont like? i wish the rebel was a one pump system!! I know with my kite there are good points and some not so good points but quite happy with what i have got and what i have got USED to.
Havent been out on it in decent winds yet qfmike, when i do.....hopefully tomorrow and tuesday i will post a proper review.
So far have flown in light winds, 7-12knots.....more 7 than 12!! and was super impressed.....Turns quick, amazingly responsive, fast, very grunty, lots of movement in kite when depowering on bar (like a bow).
Difficult so far to relaunch but what kite isnt when wet in 7 knots.
Looking forward to wind on Monday to give her a real workout.
Leading edge down launch- is push bar forward, grap either side lines second knot up. Kite will flip over and launch, easy.
Kite flat on back- Pretty much opporsite to a normal C kite launch, kite on back straight downwind, grap the bottom line instead of top line and kite will move to edge of the window, when gets to edge the top wing tip will cup around and should launch.
Crashed mine many times today, and relaunched fine every time. Kite will sit on it's back no worries and hasn't inverted at all. Rode in 20-25knts today on the 12m.
Wake style- similar feeling to the vegas. Jumping- height was a touch more and definatly more hang. Depower- 25knts and still going, felt like i had heaps left.
Kite sounds good paul.j. Just a couple of questions.
1. Self launch...when you say you can launch like a C kite; do you mean you can set it up on the edge of the window, fold over the tip and put sand on it?
2. Water relaunce> a) when it is down, leading edge in the water (the usual crash scenario) it relaunches just like a bow...pull one of the stearing lines, push out the bar and voila! If it as easy as a bow that would be great...please confirm.
b) I don't understand the relaunch when the kite is on its back....you say grab "bottom line," which bottom line? The kite has 4 lines near the bar...2 stearers, 1 to the leading edge which splits and the safety line (5th line).
2.yes, push bar foward pull on one outside line and it should relaunch just like a bow
3.once on its back pull either outside line not to cup the top wing tip but to pull the wing tip closest to you around. Sorry but hard to explaine, but is not that hard to do
hope that helped a bit.Once i find out more i will write again
Sounds like you guys in Aus have already had some experience on the rebels.
I was wondering if anyone can help me. I kite in the Newauay area of Cornwal, UK and ride waves much of the time. For the last two years i have been flying Vegas 05's (very little depower) i have the chance of getting new Vegas 06's or new Rebels. Vegas 06's are significantly cheaper, but i dont want to buy my kites based on cost alone.
Am interested in anyone that has converted from Vegas 06 to Rebel 07 and can provide a true comparison, particularly whether it possible to set up the Rebel to fly like a C kite for more wakestlye tricks.
Also i currently fly 16m, 12m and 8m kite quiver of 05 Vegas's i weight 80-85 kgs and ride a 132 x 38 twin tip. Was wondering whether i can get away with a 14 and 9m rebel to replace my current quiver or whether i need a 16 and 9m. I often like to go out in light winds say 15mph as well as when its blasting.
Please can someone give me a sensible comparrison based on experience. I would like to know whether to go for the Vegas o6 (cam battems and some depower) or the new Rebel 07.
PS i intend to fly before i buy, but would appreciate your thoughts.
Can anyone tell me how they have it setup. Paul you said that you had the 9 set on the outside setting on the bar. Do you have the kite set on the fast turning setting on the kite as well. What knot on the steering lines are you flying it. I have the 12m. Sorry for all the ?'s. I tried setting it up the same as my 06 Rhino 12 works well but I would like to tune it the best I can.
I have just ordered a 12m Rebel can someone please explain the story with the 06/07 Rebel bar and lines? I've just seen some European kite forums talking about an 'upgrade kit' for the 06 Rebel Bar? They talk about a stopper similar to that of the Naish Double Depower ball etc? and different type of flying lines?
For those out there who already have the Rebel shed some light?
Does anyone have any idea on what the upper limits of a 12m rebel would be for myself? i am 74kg, ride a 139cm twintip. could someone like myself expect to take this out with 28knot gusts?? ...... if so then thats a one kite quiver effectively
hello, seems that the specific bar for the rebel will only come next month. so if you really want the depower on that kite, you need to make some changes on the 06 bar. marc-a.
After seeing ur new kite today, ur so gonna have to give me a good strong wind session demo on that thing. I,m way impressed on the construction and quality build of the kite. Hanging to have a go
North Rebel 12m Rrp price of $AUD1899.00 and I think the 14m is $1999.00. Check with your dealer they might better it. I bought mine from BrisKites. Talk to them for a deal on it.
The bar I wasn't too sure what the difference was on the 06/07 bar. I think the lines are better on the 07 bar setup and I think the stopper was different on the 07 bar.
I loved flying the Rebel it was COOL. I flew it with the pig tails moved to the back adjustment. (after recommendation) I flew it in really gusty crap wind and it was EASY...loads of power and depower. I actually prefer riding with the bar/hook thing in coz tt makes it feel like you are on a C-kite. The feeling is very direct without bridles and pulleys. You really know where the kite sits in the air. The kite turns good but when you sheet the bar out i noticed on launching and landing the kite doesn't turn quickly...i spose that's not a bad thing. I find it so interesting that a Flat looking kite can have only 5 lines running off it. It's so simple!
For those of you thinking its like a F-One tribal...no the front lines are different. On the tribal there are 4 front lines on the leading edge which take the weight when you fly it. The 5th line will clip onto Y of the centre of the leading edge and it puts tension on the top Y when you pull it in for a water relaunch. The Rebel just sits off 2 front lines like a traditional C-kite.
The struts are cool. They're quick and easy to pump and up and deflate. Its like pumping a car tyre. The air doesn't come out unless you put the valve cover's pin in to deflate like a car tyre! There's no weirdo stopper balls just an easy one way valve. I think other kites have this but this is new for me.
Jumping with this kite..hmmmm didn't really get a chance today but it seems to be really easy. Water relaunching...what the %$#@^#^!!! it makes you eat ****! It will hot launch and spank you! I think I need to learn how to water relaunch this thing properly! Also dont leave the bar hooked in on the loop when its light wind or when you launching/landing the kite will fly backward! I discovered you are better off letting the bar out if it does this!
Had a couple of short sessions on the rebel - thanks mike.
Initial thoughts, it feels like a 9m switchblade/assault to me. So, for a 12m that's good I guess. I started on the front pigtails and had difficulty turning the kite so immediately changed to the backs. Tried different sheeting techniques and lengths. Overall, I found it to have a medium aspect feel and more similar to the 2:1 bows rather than the sle flat kites around. I think for me personally the new Rhino would be would be better as I like higher aspect kites but would like to see how it handled first.
Build looks good. Not too sure about the 3 lines through the bar as I got my fingers jammed once but I'm sure you could get used to it. The release looks simple easy and well built. I found the kite had more bar pressure than I am used to and I think you would want to use the micro hook when the wind was steady. I was accidentally hooking into the micro hook on jumps so I turned it around to disable it which is a nice feature. The bar was on the outer connections for longest length and looked about 50cm but I am guessing here. I would like to try it on a bigger bar and slacker 5th line next time.
Dropped it once half way around the window and it popped up easily for me.
