12m Hyper. Got it on Saturday from Johhny Geyer, had my first blast at Leighton in surf in 14 to 16 knots straight Westerly, stayed up wind and had a slashy session on my 6-2 surfboard. Pretty blown away by grunt of this kite, never have I stayed up wind in 14 to 16 knots before. What a truck. Normally ride a 11m Fuel 06 and 98kg. Very weird. Kite not fast, not slow, super easy to ride, very poppy, very wake style. ummmmmmmmm...strange.

Monday arvo second session 2pm to 4pm Leighton WSW 22 to 28 knots, a few black bitches passing by (storm fronts), quite a wintery session, only 3 windsurfers out. Bruce was kiting way down at Cottesloe. 2 to 3 foot storm surf. Pretty nervious self launching new kite in 25knots, (only kited a hybrid style on Saturady for first time, don't really like that bridle **** that hangs off the front of the kite, catches when you self launch, adds a bit of tension to storm kiting)but what a dream when she gets into the air, sheet in and was instantly suspended 6ft over beach , sheet out and drop back to beach with no pull from kite, strange sucker this kite. 2 hour blat around Leighton beach on 6-2 surfboard, what a blast 3/4 depowered on chicken loop, total control and got 50 waves and a couple a very desperate cover up's. Session ended when my fin snapped off board during a high speed cutback. CRACK and Johnny splatted at high speed. Conclusion. Can't say yet but its a preety weird kite, Ive stayed up wind in 14knots and surfed in 25.

The 12m is a 12m, it just has HEAPS of controlable range. Top end I suspect is 30knots, but a 9m would be much more throwable. IMO if you want a low end kite ( I personal don't like any thing bigger than a 12m)I reckon this 12m Hybrid is pretty amazing. But saying that I was using it in up to 28knots yesterday very comfortably. Again ...what a weird kite. I will give the beast a full thrashing over the next week or two and get back with my impressions. Can't wait to try the 9m.

We've got a 12m HyperType left for demo at SOS. Our next order which will includes 9m will arrive in a couple of weeks. It's never soon enough!

My review? this kite is smoooth. Heaps of power, heaps of windrange, but no need for a fifth line, light bar pressure. I'll be riding the 12 and a 9 this year.

VANCE HERE...YES, BORROWED THE DEMO FROM JOHN AT SOS LAST SATURDAY AND HAD A GO NEAR THE FOOTBRIDGE AT LEIGHTON. NERVOUS ABOUT MY FIRST FLIGHT BUT WENT WELL. CONDITIONS WERE FLUKY, BUT GOT A FEW RUNS. ABOUT 12-18 KNOTTS I RECKON. WASNT QUITE HOLDING MY LINE BUT THE KITE STILL GOT ME PLAINING WELL. IM 78KG. MY MATE TIM GOT ON (60KG) AND WAS HOLDING HIS LINE NO WORRIES. PICKED UP MY HYPER ON MONDAY. LOOKING FORWARD TO GETTING IT OUT IN SOME GOOD CONDITIONS. YES, STRANGE. BUT ONCE SUSSED, I THINK IT WILL BE SICK. STILL COMING TO TERMS WITH THE RANGE. FULL DEPOWER AND THE KITE JUST SITS THERE.... DROPPED IT ONCE IN THE LIGHT WINDS, AND IT POPPED BACK UP NO WORRIES. BRING ON SUMMER. YEAA HAAR. AS JOHN WOULD SAY...KEEP FAITH.
