Since approximately 2000 manufactures adjust bar length or shape of the kite according to keeping the feel of the kite throughout the sizing the same… Best is braking that habit now with reshaping drastically within the same kite range. So the 4. 5,5. 7. 8. 9 aims with a deep centre of effort and wide wingtips Unhooked surf enthusiasts and New school riders. This is reflected as well by the distribution of Dacron which is designed to be hit hard by the surf :D
The 10. 12. 14 approaches New school and big Kiteloop focused riders. Aggressive canopy shaping and a tip to tip profile is supposed to make more lift and creates a smoother feel through the kite loops.
The n15 and 17m one are light wind machines! A high aspect ratio and swept wingtips for relaunch make this kite a good light wind kite and a course racing wappon…
we'll see if it delivers, but we are excited!!!

sorry bout the teaser vid, frustrating for us as well, as all I want to do is spill the beans on this kite. We have been riding the 12 and 17 for a couple of weeks in terrible wind, but this weekend is looking up.

As usual we like to test a new kite in all conditions first before we go blabbing our head off about how good it is, because like any brand, Best is under the same pressures to produce the absolute best product they can.

From what we have flown in so far, the performance of the 17 (Race) and 12mtr kites are awesome. Definate step in a diferent direction of design that I have seen before.

We all know that in the past, each model of kite, from each brand has a sweet couple of sizes. This was because that sweet size (usually a 9 or 10) was the size they built first, and all the other sizes were just simply duplicated smaller or bigger. The Taboo's design has been uniquely engineered so that every level of sizes are shaped and trimmed to make it perform at its best. You can imagine the effort it takes to make this happen, as each size pretty much needs to be designed from the bottom up, considering what genre of riding and wind conditions that size is mostly used for. Here is a better description (just to let the concerned know, i have cut and pasted this from our resource material)

Obviously as more people get to demo the Taboo we will have more of a better review, but at this stage, im excited for the 2011 season ahead.

Wow...According to that promo video with the Taboo you are... able to walk around no where near it, wrap up the lines and fly it in a straight line...riveting stuff!!

Had the first day today of wind with the 12mtr. Very happy with how this kite performs this year and suprisingly the Taboo is a big jumper as well. Very smooth in its turns and no hint of backstall at all. Unfortunately I only had my Race bar setup on the kite with 30mtr lines, would love to try looping with 20-25mtr lines.

We have some demo Taboo's arriving early this week so the first demos will be sent out to various dealers. Hit your local Best dealer up to book your go.

The colours look bloody ugly, hope the kite flys ok , i will have to wear me flanno and ug boots to fit in with it. what about a nude chick on the kite with a big rack, so much better to look at and appreciate.

I have been seing taboos flying for quite a while here and they seem very good for wave riding with fast and tigt turning. The colors are different though, maybe because they are prototypes.

You have to be joking, the colours this year are mad, I think this is one of the better looking kites so far for 2011. Menace, what type of kite do you fly that looks better than this?

a white argo, looks like a cloud in the sky and white water in the drink, hard to see, definitely not ugly.

One or two of the colour schemes are a bit iffy, well not to my taste, but i think some of the others are going to look great in the air.

i used to ride a 12m griffin i now have a brand new 12m taboo so far im loving it very smooth stable kite turns nicely, unhooks really well, jumps quite high and kiteloops r really really smooth i was suprised at how smooth it was through the loops, i think this kite will help to progress my riding already after only a few rides its given me more confidence unhooked to try things i hadnt b4

as far as graphics go i wasnt the biggest fan wen i saw the pictures of them but once in the air they look pretty cool mates got yellow and blue i got the green both look awesome

mate u got an argo the graphics suck i tried getting chris to get some decent graphics on the griffins for 2 yrs but he seems to like to keep them plain and simple, a plain white kite with a black bird is bit boring

to sum up the taboo i think everyone that tries them will b really happy. For beginners there super smooth and stable. For the average rider it boosts awesome u really hang up there and for the more advanced riders it handles really well unhooked. If u cant tell im really happy with my 12 and soon to get a 17 which i demo yesterday and cant wait to get my own

O yeah i better add to that there is one thing i dont like bout the taboo it comes with a sack instead of a proper bag its to keep the price down but if ur like me and cant b bothered rolling ur kite up really tight u can get a bag with it

Why is everyone talking massive kite sizes??? 17 and 12 metre kites nearly unheard of in WA. Has someone flown a 9? Looking to upgrade this year from a 9m waroo thats 3 years old.

We need big kites we dont get that much wind or it may b cause i weight 180kg im not sure

taboo has smaller range i had a quick go on the 8m demo it was really smooth and responsive too but cant say anymore as it was only brief go

the smaller range has different graphics there awesome ull love them im sure someone will post some pics

Personally I throw huge airs/kiteloops on my 14m in 15knts, and do the maddest wakestyle on my 7m in 35knts...

It is definitely a different concept when it comes to designing and making a kite, having 3 different kites in the same range. But i think what they are aiming at is having each size made to be the best kite it can be with out sticking to a basic guideline.

I believe they will all be kites that can be used all round and if you are a wake style rider or a wave ridder you could still make up a full quiver, best look like they have taken a look at what sized kites people use for different styles and have built and tuned them to suit but they are not limited to just that.

If the taboo does well, i think other manufacturers will look at adopting the same designing in to there kites, you could really reduce the number of different models they would need to make and could concentrate on making them better every year.


Time will tell wether it is a good kite or not, I can't wait to give them a go summer is just around the corner now and everyone is getting itchy feet

I thought that it was a bit weird that the 6, 7, 8, were marketed as a wakestyle kite and for surf. It seems like you want two complete different handling kites, a fast kite with light bar pressure for the surf and a slower kite with good feedback for wakestyle.

I found some info on the setup for each, for wakestyle they recommend the smaller bar 45cm and slower wing tip settings, for surf the bigger bar 55cm and fast settings. Apparently it feels like 2 completely different kites. But at $500 a bar if you only get one kite your not going to have 2 bars so i think it would have been better to have an adjustable bar, i think that core had one. But if you get 2 kites most people would buy 2 bars so one each size.

This is definitely one interesting kite this year, i wonder weather it is going to be a hit or a dud. It looks like they have dropped the nemisis hoping there ridders will change. But i wonder which other kite it is trying to compete with maybe the cab nomad?

Yes I'd guess the common denominator for wave and wakestyle is that they sit deeper in the wind window, while turning speed makes the difference.

The bottom line probably is that the small sizes are more stable with bigger tips, lower AR and the middle sizes faster/more powerful.
Don't know, personally I like to boost, so the middle sizes sound interesting, but as a high wind kite I don't want a wave/wakestyle kite that usually jumps crappy.

On the Best forums, they have the price being similar to what the Nemisis nxg was, that will probably put it up around the $2000 mark with a bar for a 9m fairly pricey considering the bag is so cheap but we will have to wait and see, the actual price may vary a little with the strong AU$. But still in the ball park for someone looking for a top end kite.
