Tell me more about the dub.
Its not a dud is it?
Havent seen any around! I ride a xenon infra which is coming to a end before that a a airush.
Looking for a chop eating, big poping, upwind machine that handles carving in surf!
Google doesn't have many reviews on Naish tts!!

If you want upwindability you want a board with no rocker. If you want chop eating you want a board with lots of rocker.

First figure out what board you want then get back to us


At moment i would suggest a cabrinha tronic. 3cm higher then your standard

For the first three attributes the Monarch would tick the boxes. I ride it for two years now (2016 and 2017) and like it a lot. It is fast, great for boosting, strong pop, after all it's Kevin Langeree's signature model. I am not tapping into it's potential for freestyle but using the freeride side of it. Carving is good (and can be improved by bigger fins), I used in waves, but there are boards which are stronger in this and better suited for waves, e.g. Shinn Monk, which I also have. But that is a different board altogether.
The Monarch is a stiff board but the bottom shaping makes it pretty smooth in chop.

I haven't had the opertunity to test anything else. I make what I have work but I'm sure there's something better!
I ride in manly open beaches with swell, chop. Like boosting off waves,popping into carves. I'm not afraid of being over powered and love driving my board.
So that's what I like to do maybe there's a start.

Hey mate you sound like my style of rider. Open beaches, chop, waves and boosting. Ive been riding a Crazy Fly Protour Model the last 2ish years and thought it was time for a change. I demoed several boards including cab tronic, naish monarch, shinn monk. I ended up going a Slingshot Asylum. Ive only had half a doz heavy wind sessions on it but it is unbelievable! Even though it has a heavy rocker, it trucks upwind. Another big thing for me is to avoid spray in the face, again the asylum has zero face spray. The board also boosts big and lands softly. Anyway thats my 2c

I have the latest monarch, super fun for freestyle. Really sounds like you want the Motion though, super smooth out in the chop and fun to boost and carve. Want to go high end get the carbon "drive" version

Undertow and Dirk, what size 2017 Monarch do you have? Have either of you tried the 142, and if so do you recommend it for a 95kg rider (no boots)

only riden a friend 2014 dub and yep its really slow... need to be super overpowered...

2014 monarch - similiar to 2015 but heavier and bit slower.
2015 monarch - fast board, good boosting, does fairly well in small chop
2015 dub - much more upwind than the 2014 dub but a lot slower than the monarch (say 30% less). good amount of pop. pivots well
2017 stomp - faster than my old 2015 dub, bit slower than monarch, light, well made, eats chop, pivots really well - very happy with this one...

i think if your going free ride, booting / board off go the monarch, stomp/ any dub after 2014 if you wanting that plus unhooking.

also had the 2014 x calibre which i found very stiff and much preffered the 2015 monarch after transitioning to it.

Rode the 2015 Dub and Stomp in waves, performs fine can turn nicely, even had stomp out at lancelin on the friday before the big race in 3-4m swell and it was awesome to ride. you'll never truely be able to really cut back though as your feet are in the wrong position - but for small waves it works great.

132 x 41. I weigh 74kg, so cannot give a real advice on the right board size for you.

Lol, that dub was so slow and I hated it when I was underpowered but when I was over powered I loved it. You didn't need to use fins with it at all, sooo much grip haha

I have the 142 Monarch, great board loving it so far (I'm 100 kg and gone back to straps) Glad they finally brought out the bigger sizes. I havent even tried my stomp 142 (looks like they have smoothed the rocker out this year which will help get it going a little better than dubs) Could be another option if like rockered feel. Monarch is fast and great pop, not too bad in chop but i stick to the flats. All up happy to the adjustments the naish crew did with the boards in 2017 and i have a shaping background.

Motion 138, great board, purchased to get back into kiting waves after very bad foot injury. Superb in chop, fast and carves really well. Right up there with it's for wave riding. It's light and very good upwind. Not sure about boosting as I am hesitant to try at moment.

Hi Ralph, great to hear from you, I will get back on the Naish skater in time. Think jibing would be unfair on my foot just at moment. Keep well
