Winter approaching fast and time for a new wetty, had mostly qsilver wettys for ages but the quality isn't so good anymore, looking at the Mystic star 5/4 which is actually designed for kiting, anyone using the Mystics ?

Had a few models of the star, always been happy with the quality, the dl model can get pretty warm though

had a black star. amazing quality. kept me warm in tassie winter

got a mystic majestic 5/4. Was toasty at the Prom in July.

Any of you guys have the star or black star 5/4 or just 3/2? Never worn anything thicker than 3 except when diving due to people telling me they are too uncomfortable and even too warm.....New materials don't need to be as thick etc. Can't seem to find the black star in 3/2 is why I ask. Agree new wetties are hopeless durability wise compared to old.

Any stockists in Perth? Mystic website tells me closest shop is in adelaide. Bit to far to drive.

your'd have to be in single digits for a 5/4 to be usefull wouldn't you?

I have ridden in my 6.5m semi dry for all of winter, amazingly toasty- a thicker wetsuit does add weight but imo being warm im happy to sacrifice a bit of flex worth looking at the seems under the arm as they tend to go a bit on the thicker suits in my experience, might be worth looking at some of the surf brands as they seem to have access to quality rubber at better price points.

Thanks for the feedback on the thicker suits. I wear a wettie year round though I might have to consider a winter steamer and a lighter summer one.

I just replaced my winter wetty, had a Peak fully sealed back zip, with their top of the range rubber wore that for a couple of winters, liked it, but was really impressed with the Rip Curl Flash Bomb, and decided to give my old suit to someone in need and upgrade.
I'd have to say it is by far the most comfortable and flexible wetsuit I've ever used, super warm, even for a 3/2, the new fluffy lining stuff definitely insulates better and yet remains super stretchy. Hard to beat the Rip Curl quality and warranty repair service, that alone is the main reason we sell Rip Curl, we have not found a brand that can offer that level of support for their product.

yup. new flashbomb dries 20 times quicker than my old f-bomb

Yes, thats the other thing, I hung it in my shed and it rained overnight so was very humid and my old suit would still have been quite wet, the flash bomb felt as dry as a bone this morning, so also very impressed as I hate getting into a wet wetty!

Hard to justify walking into Ripcurl here in Torquay and forking out $600 when I can get the Mystic free delivery from O/S for less than $200. Warranty issues ? All have 12 months on materials, bar humbug, it's just a wetty, never had one fail in less than 12 months, (except the original ripcurl aqua ban from the 80's that peeled off the seams after first surf, they did fix it, about 10 times !!!!!! ) at the end of the day I can get any wetty fixed cheap locally and Mystic appear to have very good reviews and designed for kiters.

We do stock Rip Curl, full range available, but for some silly reason we are not allowed to sell them online. Call us with your size, get a quote, but will not get anywhere near $200 delivered. As you have experienced Rip Curl warranty is very good.
Did a quick search and yeah that Mystic suit is cheap, but to be fair, I think its nowhere near the quality of the Flash Bomb, the comparable suit from Rip Curl would be the Dawn Patrol or something from Peak (also owned and backed by ripcurl).

I have a crossfire 5/4. It's very warm. And was pretty cheap, under $200. Pretty easy to put on and take off. Ankle straps are a nice touch, don't get water shooting up my legs.

Only con, it is 5/4 so feels pretty bulky.

Can't say anything right now, but Mystic will be a lot easier to get in this country next season, and no its nothing to do with KP, although we do intend to stock and support the brand (as we always have).

My mystic 5/4 arrived, they even threw in a Mystic neoprene brimstar hat/beanie which will come in handy to keep the old noggin warm. Less than $200, free delivery from the UK and a bonus $40 hat, hard to beat that for value and service. After wearing wettys for about 35 cold vic winters, I can say with some experience, that the design, materials, build quality and fit is awesome.

Mystic 6/4 is even warmer - North Sea requires this.

Had a mystic steamer back then and it didn't last a whole year. On the other hand the drysuit was very good. A friend of mine bought a mystic steamer last summer, same as mine; it started to rip around the knee pad, stomach etc... I still get stuff like hoodie, rashguard etc cause they make beautiful stuff but no more steamer. Best wetsuits in my opinion are surfer wetsuit, ripcurl, xcel etc... Maybe the mystic star will be better,

My personal one is a 5/4 and is as easy to wear as most 3/4's

The mystic 5/4 was more than enough for the last vic winter, warmest, most comfortable thick wetty I've ever bought, still like new, I'll be buying more mystics.

What about Sydney winters, what do you wear ? 5/4 ?

I relented and bought from the UK the Ion Onyx Voltage full steamer late last winter (admittedly here in QLD my steamers last years) in the 4/3mm combo and it doesn't really feel any heavier than replaced wettie below in 3/2. The 3/2 Ion was not available at time of purchase.

I replaced after good service my Andy Irons (RIP) promoted Billabong Platinum Solution and I looked at Mystic, KP, Ion and surf specific steamers.

For the Ion, price was excellent, colours great, fit and feel awesome, home delivered and of course kite-specific touches like ankle velcros really do work and stop the water shooting up your leg and ballooning your wettie as you fly along! The cuffing and actual trim at the wrists certainly seems to work well too, to stop this portion riding up in a wipeout!

I enjoy replacing equipment every 5+ years and seeing the advancements...the Ion has a plush felt inside, front zip and barely any water seeps in.

I considered plenty of wetsuit reviews in the surfing literature available at the time, and from memory actually called the shop one night to chat to a human and confirm everything prior to submitting online purchase.

Ion products/brand is Austrian but the wettie was made in China...go figure!

I have also this summer purchased an Ion rashie (in Aussie mainly gold, and green) and their Element 2mm black and green trim wetsuit jacket and these look and feel great too!

Both these additional Ion purchases were also from the UK, but I was due some new boardies (after 8 years I think) and bought three new pairs of boardshorts through the Quiksilver Australian website to keep the locals happy:)
