Yep, I reckon they are SH1T HOT.
First of all, I’m not sponsored by Slingshot, and this year is the first time I’ve bought Slingshot.
For what it’s worth, here is my overview on the LINK.
I’ve been riding the grey bridle Link now for 2 months, 12 & 15M.
I guess I was one of the lucky ones not to have problems with grey bridle lengths.
I bought the Link with an open mind and I can tell you that after the first ride on the 4 line I was not impressed at all. Having read all the negative threads on the Link I was sure I had bought a lemon.
Yeah, the kite fell out of the sky, no real bottom end and more input required to turn it etc.
Then the penny dropped. What was it like 5 years ago coming off a 2 line kite to my first 4 line kite. “DIFFERENT”. So I set myself a task “don’t blame the tools” understand the kite and from that point onwards the kite just seems to get better and better. Yeah still a few issues but minor, but hey, what kite hasn’t. Red bridles should fix.
I’m certainly not after a kite with heaps of grunt, lighting fast, so this style of kite suits my style or lack there of.
GREAT in waves, GREAT cruising, GREAT for easy dick tricks and loops with the right amount of power and speed for me.
I believe a lot of bad treads are due to guys expecting the Link to perform like a Fuel. “It’s just ain't gunna happen”.
I actually had my first session on the missing Link 10.5 last weekend with the RED BRIDLE and man what a difference. Better bottom end, (still not the gruntiest kite but good bottom end) better de power, sits further back in the window and turns just like any other 10M medium aspect kite I’ve had before.
Solid as a rock. GREAT IN WAVES.
Oh, the kite did fall out of the sky, my fault, I let the bar all the way out to the stopper and down she come. Easy fix, make sure the stopper is down a bit so it can’t totally depower, problem solved.
Needless to say I’m impressed.
For me, one of the best attractions to this kite is the bar. Very simple, clean and the ball stopper keeps me on the water longer.
5th Line not my cut of tea, but it worked fine.
Remember this is a layman’s point of view. If you’re after a kite with high performance then this is properly not the style of kite for you.
If you are Joe average like most of us, then give the Link with RED bridle another go, I think you will be surprised.
