Hi guys, I ended up buying two 9m edges - one 2013 model that I'm still waiting on delivery when my parents drive up to brisbane and a 2017 that I decided to buy after a massive tax return. Took it out today in 18kn at Sandgate and had a great time. Everyone else was on 12 and 14m kites but I had no problem keeping up and doing some small jumps. Loving it.
When the 2013 model arrives I might do a review comparison of all three edges if anyone is interested. Could be fun to see the evolution of the design. One thing that is immediately obvious is that the leading edge of the 2008 is much smaller in diameter.
Is is anyone interested to see the review?
What sizes did you get?
The "Instinct" series of Ozone kites evolved from a single model when Ozone first produced inflatable kites in 2006, to 3 by 2008. There was the Instinct Light, one of the first 3 strut kites, which evolved into the Catalyst and now Enduro. Instinct Sport was a 5 strut kite which evolved into the C4, and the Instinct Edge, which became just the Ozone Edge. I agree with everyone, there is nothing like the Edge, lots of imitations though.
The Instinct series of kites were designed by David Pilkington one of Ozone's 3 owners), because Rob Whitall was having a break from Ozone. Matt Taggart managed to persuade Rob to come back as head designed for Ozone kites and the rest is history. Ozone created their own software called OzCad to assist with the design of their kites (which came from the paraglider side of the business).
