Im looking for a set of kiteboot bindings that allow one to walk around in case of running aground in shallow water or low wind and still have foot protection.

It would need to fit a tona pop board.

if your running aground you shouldnt be wearing boots.

but hyperlights are your only option regardless

Its more of tidal issue. I like to kite until i run out of water. With boots i can run finless so the session lasts longer.

Anyone got a preference for which hyperlight boot works best?

Also has anyone tried slingshot boots (shredtown, ktv or rad)? Whats the difference in terms of weight and flex?

Im looking for a medium flex and have narrow flatish feet... Any of the above boots more suitable for this?

I tried the Shredtown for a few sessions but found them too high and super stiff...prefer a medium high/flex boot as well. KTV doesn't have removable liner so if you're looking for that then Slingshot is out.
Agree that Hyperlite Systems would be your best bet. If you're in Melbourne talk to Simon at KR...he's riding the Systems and can tell you all about the different boots cos not all of them are great for kiting.

Have you looked at the 2018 cabrinha h3? Can't comment on them but the 2017 I have without the removable liner are going well, definitely light & flexible. Looks like they've got the same base plate.

Hyperlites are beast. But i agree, if you are only wearing boots to prolong your sessions then you are wearing them for the wrong reason.

I have one pair of bindings -designed and made them myself following as a rehab tool following an ankle recon ( one foot strap came off and the twintip twisted around the other). Not sure about walking on reefs though!

Mkat that is an awesome idea (and film!). Ive often wondered why a releasable binding isnt already available as technically it would be possible and would save a few joints. How does yours attach? I was thinking some kind of strong velcro could work so it sticks while jumping but releases under load. Given that people ride strapless already it wouldn't take much more hold power for it to work i would think.

As it so happens I have gone with hyperlites. Ive got the bindings, now just need to select the boots. Anyone tried the Murray hyperlite boot for kiting?

Bramber,I took a provisional patent for the design- so if you are really interested I could provide you with details. It works similar to skiing bindings- with the difference being the boots are released simultaneously- that was the original idea. That is why Velcro won't work.

But all the above is not relevant: I spoke to most of the major players- kite and wakeboarding. The consensus is" nice design but the industry does not have enough money to justify further R&D".
For instance it took skiing world ( with huge amount of $ involved) about 50 years to adopt the bindings we use now.
So for now , I am afraid, we are stuck with 4x6' screws keeping surgeons and insurers in business.
Answering your question- Hypelites is your best option at the moment- if you need to 'ride and walk".

I absolutely loved hyperlites cannot recommend them more but however to get the stiffness it results in breaking. In one season i managed to break/go through three pairs of boots and two sets of frames all replaced under warrenty. ive now moved on to the Liquid force LFKs i miss the stiffness but least its now breaking all the time

Hyperlits are super stiff regardless of the modle. They are very cool but terribly uncomfortable to walk around in. I use to get chaff and blisters by walking around in wet boots. I broke everything quite quickyl and went back to normal boots. I do miss how stiff they were tho.
Shredtowns are very stiff also.

If if you really really need foot protection then go for it, but I think the normal boot is best for kiteboarding. More flex for grabs, easy to get in and out, and less things to brake
