Bramber,I took a provisional patent for the design- so if you are really interested I could provide you with details. It works similar to skiing bindings- with the difference being the boots are released simultaneously- that was the original idea. That is why Velcro won't work.

For instance it took skiing world ( with huge amount of $ involved) about 50 years to adopt the bindings we use now.
So for now , I am afraid, we are stuck with 4x6' screws keeping surgeons and insurers in business.
