Looking for a product to use on kite bag zips to stop jamming from corrosion.
Attempted to do all care from sand (best you can with gear on the beach).
WD40 works when it's stuck but not keen on oils near the kite.
BWS and Griffin bags don't have zips seems to make more sense.
Winter soon so kites get less use.

Rub lots of dirt and salt water into the zipper untill its completely stuffed.
that way you have an excuse to throw it in the bin and buy a new one.

I bought a double bag from 25knots.com.au and it doesn't have any zips. There is also a single bag that they sell. Worth a look on their website.

Might have read somewhere. Use a stuff brush, hot soapy water scrub etc. let dry then spray with silica lube stuff.

Not long to go hey the doldrums, the switch off is coming soon.

Next week may be okay though.

you get this stuff called Dryglide.. it's great and when it dries leaves a coating on the material to help with lubrication.

Griffin bags do have zips. They went a period of time with a velcro setup, now they are more like a slingshot bag, more functional. Keep the silicone spray up, if you don't use a kite for a while spray it before you put it away. You might want to spray the zips on the leading edge bladder too, I just had to replace a bladder on an older kite and could not get the zip to move. Ended up having to pull the whole thing out through the wing tip which is easy enough, but rethreading back in without twists took several attempts and a long afternoon.

Griffin definitely have zips on their latest kites (I have one in for repair at the moment)
Ozone do not have zips, not sure if that will continue, but if they do go back to a zip it will be a non corroding, non metal type.
The problem with zips is not the zip, its the metal zipper head, if a bag has metal zipper head, then it will corrode, even if its sprayed with silicone or drylube and freeze.

Look for bags that have plastic zipper heads, and large ones!

get a candle and rub over zipper... then open and close a few times, never had a zip get stuck, and old trick taught by my old man with tent zipps.

Cheers for that Garry, sounds simple an effective. I'm am going to try it right now.

Once it's free, clean off the wd and use Silicone spray. Works a treat.

Lanox is good. Being lanolin it smells like a sheep truck. My girlfriend is a kiwi so I have to be careful with it

Reply re above comment, Griffin Bags have non corroding, non metal type zips and heads. The problem with zips is not the zip, its the metal zipper head, ours is plastic, I have not seen a zip get stuck in 2 years with the Griff bags.

A tip if you have some other bag with metal that get jamed, hot water can clear it up.

I have heard this story about Lanolin drives the KIWI's Crazeeeee... so i tried it on a bloke at work and man he was a ranting raving luna tick with the tongue hanging out ...

Boiling water melts the salty residue. Ozone bags are the best due to no zips. Hope that never changes.

This is dangerous so use at own risk, but I use Hydrochloric Acid (pool dry acid mixed with water or the liquid version) on stuck zips. It melts the salt away in seconds and I quickly then rinse it with warm water. Then I apply the "wax trick" mentioned above and never had a zip stuck since.

No zips I've seen 2 part timers here miss sessions as they literally couldn't get their kites out 1 an airush and a cabrinah, IMO royal kite bags are the best bag I've seen for access and my flexifoil bags are IMO the best bag I've had, they're a work of art, even the missus mentioned how well made they were and looked, coming from a handbag freak that's a compliment

That's the difference between part timers and us ,only just packed my kites away properly for the 1st time in 6 mths, shame I had to pull the 10 out last week, I'd done such a neat job of folding it up

Plastic or metal - personally I use Dri-Glide Spray. Super smooth all the time & doesnt attract sand at all.
But lots have told me they never stick or bog up uf you use plain old surf wax.??
Dont know about that? Id be wiping off all excess so theres not enough left to attract sand?
