My mate wants to buy a Kahoona 13M second hand .He lives on the Sunny coast. I don't really know too much about them having never riden one ? Any one got some review advice for him ? e.g. relaunch ability , wind range ,any faults or advice I can help him with ????? Thanks Man .

The biggest I flew was an 11.5m, it was pretty grunty. Im 100kg. The 13.5 would be a pretty big kite. I cant really remember what the wind strength is like on the sunny coast though.

If it gets anything like 17knots plus Id say go something a little smaller

Dunno if it's relevant as its a newer model...But I have a 11.5 V3 2011 and I'm still out riding in 30kn. I'm a relative noob and it's a very friendly kite to use. My only complaint would be not enough bottom end (but as I get better should be OK)

I have been using the 13.5m Kahoona V2 for the last 2 seasons and rate it highly. It transformed my learning experience because everything got so much easier. I have another 10m surf kite and am happy with this 2 kite quiver combination.

I'm 95kg and it'll get me going with a skim board before other lighter folk get going on their twin tips.

I'll move then onto a surfboard or twin tip as the wind picks up. The kite redirects well for a large kite and gives a big floaty jump. The drift in the waves is decent.

Relaunch is easy and it'll never invert. Despite the lack of scuff pads, the kite is holding up well.

Negatives:
- self landing is tricky, as it's a light kite and doesn't settle easily on the sand.
- The 4 attachment points are the same... not "kook-proof"
- have heard that the bar sold with the kite is average... I use another branded bar
- 5 bladders to inflate
- many pulleys that get sand in them then wear out the bridal ropes

It's a great kite to get "lit" early... great for those days when you're not sure whether the seabreeze is going to get to full strength. Note that I'm based in Sydney, I was under the impression that the Sunshine Coast had much more wind...
