I'm going for the Impact 13 but not sure of what's the next kite size (smaller) to go with.

I'm thinking abt Impact 11 but how much more top end does it have compared to the 13? I thought for the stronger winds in fall I could get a 8 or 9 Tribal.

Of course one option could be to go with the 11 Tribal as well but the 11 Impact has been raved to be really sweet kite
And BTW, how's the 9 Impact?

Had a session with Robecq the othe week at St Kilda comparing Impact 9 and 13, Tribal 13, and M5 12m.

Peter was going just as well on the 9 as the 13.

it seems the bottom end of the 9 is not along way from the 13.

I have used an 11m in a session that came in at 22kts and quickly died off to 10 kts then back again, then died again. used the 11m first then when it dropped the first time put it down, then when wind came back used a switchblade 12m.

Bottom end of both seemed same. top end was Impact territory and real fun. actually speed of impact made it way more fun at bottom end as well.

having had a 13 impact in waves at 34kts, the 11m would seem to go higher again.

A spread of 9m 13m impact would probably cover 12 -40kts.

RAL, does the impact have the same full-depower function as the tribal? which kite is the easier one to relaunch? thanks.

The Tribal has the stop and Go feature that allows you to let go pf the bar(both hands) and it slowly goes to side of window and rests on a wingtip.

One guy attaches C/loop to back of ute and then goes and collects it.

The Impact doesn't, although it can depower enough to come close.

In real terms of depower the impact comes very close to Bow kite depower. But you have to compare the depower points where you still have steering.

I have had the Impact 13 set where you stand comfortable on the beach with kite above, then pull bar down and lift off ground.

So both are exceptional depowerers. Both relaunch similer 5th line way. The curved tips seem to help initiating of the relaunch, and both need time to fine tune ideal 5th line stopper length.

both have very sexy bars but a ring on the 5th would be nice.
The Tribal likes more air pressure and can freakout if over sent during jumps. The Impact is so fast you can stuff up sending it any amount and still recover.

i've had the 9 impact out in a solid 30-35 kts, and it was sweet, 77kgs as well. haveing said that it was set on the most depowered 5th line setting, and the front lines in the center power setting, it was almost too depowered to ride it when i tried the top depower front line setting so i think this kite would easiloy make it into the 40's on top depower setting. having said that my 11 i usually ride on center depower in about 25 so it will go mid 30's and the 13 I havn't taken out in more than about 25 either yet. the bottom end of the 9 is about 16 kts to go upwind...but you can have fun on it in less due to the speed depending on your board size.
ive got an 11 and 13, the 13 starts at about 12 kts with the line extensions... ive thought about it and the low end of the 13 for me is so close to the low end of the 15 tribal, and of the other brand 15's out there that unless it was sub 10 kts i wouldn't put up another kite, and if i had to i would go the 18 or bigger m6 vice 16 because... you wanted to go kiting in under 10 kts? you also need ( or will gain even more low end) by getting a light wind board for it. the 11 meter is the " in betweener", for days when it's 15 - 25 , but they all have great cross wind range so if you want massive power you go a size bigger, if you want depowered riding for learning stuff, put a smaller kite up.

Hey chop, which kite do you like better, the Tribal or the Impact?

impact for me.... cause of the " crispness " but i don't seriously wave ride, only freestyle. The tribal gives me more depower but I'm really having fun with the extra speed that the impact gives vs the tribal for trying new stuff, or just to use a smaller kite in less wind, but end up with the same pull in the power stroke. Michelle is really taking to it after the dream and m5 which is great and she's thinking it's awesome, esp the relaunch and depower for her being pertty small. she has tried the tribal aswell.

re: tribal and/or impact, what kite size would you recommend for a 90kg rider looking for a low-teens to low 20s kts range? thanks for the input.

I use the 13M Tribal from around 10knot staying up wind on an Airush Exile,jumping around 12Knots. 88 kgs,
The sweet spot for me is betwwen 13 > 20 knots.
I haven't gone past 25 knots as yet, but I think it would be good to 30knots on the most de-powered setting.
In waves or crusing the Tribal is the ducks guts.

Have to look out about Sept.

But considering the nature of the 06 beast I wonder what they will do?

It doesn't need to be faster. It doesn't need any more range. It does need a ring on the end of the 5th line to make clipping leash easier.

So for 07, look out for a different color and a ring.
But at the moment the 11's and 13's have bonuses so who cares.
